Uli was a character in The Last of Us Part II. Ellie encounters him sometime after he became infected and reached stage one.[1]

Biography[]

Background[]

Uli lived in the Hillcrest suburb of Seattle with his friend Boris Legasov.[2]

Defending Hillcrest[]

After Outbreak Day, Uli worked with Boris to form a collaborative partnership with FEDRA, with Hillcrest maintaining some independence from Seattle's wider quarantined center.[2]

After the Washington Liberation Front overthrew FEDRA and the military, Uli and Boris disliked the oppressive stance the group placed on the Hillcrest community, especially their strict curfews, dictatorial orders and, eventually, their pressuring to move from Hillcrest to SoundView Stadium where the WLF was based deeper in the city. Uli met with Boris, the pair conspiring to raise resistance in the community against WLF influence. Uli believed Boris, as the area's leader and best defender, could sway public opinion. [3] Uli also worked with Boris' daughter, Sofia Legasov, in the protests though he disapproved of her vandalizing the WLF's banners and rules signs they had erected in the town.[2]

Turning against Boris[]

However, tragedy struck when Sofia, while making protest art, was caught and gunned down by a WLF patrol, breaking and enraging Boris, much to Uli's horror. Uli tried to convince Boris not to retaliate, believing the WLF would not support them if they turned violent.[2] However, Sofia's killing scared many families, including the Brandmans, into fleeing from Hillcrest, despite Uli trying to persuade them otherwise.[4]

As feared, Boris began a campaign against the WLF, killing their patrolmen, including destroying their vehicles and mutilating their corpses. Uli, with little choice, conspired with the remaining Hillcrest members (including X) to turn Boris over to the WLF in exchange for safe passage to the stadium.[5]

However, Boris learned of their intentions and, embittered by his friends' betrayal, drugged them unconscious and dragged them into a garage full of spores. A now-infected Uli woke up and, after a brief struggle, bit Boris before being sealed in the garage.[6] In time, Uli and the others turned into runners.[1]

Events of The Last of Us Part II and death[]

While searching for Tommy Miller, Ellie found various notes from and for Uli in Hillcrest. If she opens the garage where Uli and the other infected Hillcrest members were trapped, they will rush out and attack her, forcing her to either flee, or kill them in self-defense.[1]
