Heidi Kennedy is a character mentioned in The Last of Us Part II.[1] She was a resident of Seattle who lived in the city after the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak occurred.[2]

Biography[]

Background[]

Heidi lived in apartment 304 with her daughter, Julia. When the Cordyceps brain infection led to FEDRA locking the city down into a quarantine zone, the pair were left to fend for themselves as the United States military were not able to secure the entire city. At some point, Heidi fell ill. Fearing her mother would be unable to survive the journey to the military-controlled area, Julia chose to remain in the apartment to look after her.

While living there, Heidi came home from scavenging one day to find fresh cornbread was left outside her apartment alongside a note. The note was from Sam Howels and James Cooper, two other residents who also chose to stay in their apartment, 302, rather than move to the QZ. Heidi, upon finding the note, left a reply and a bottle of vodka. Soon after, James and Sam offered to help Julia look after her mother, which she gratefully accepted.

The group lived in the apartment long enough that Seraphites started to move into the area and began terrorizing those still living in the apartment complex. While Julia was out scavenging, a group of three Seraphites attacked the apartment area. James and Sam protected Heidi, but James was killed in the fight. When Julia returned, she found Sam had fled, the man fearing more Seraphites would return and did not think they could stop them. He left Julia the combination to his safe and implored that the women flee. Julia, however, chose not to and instead barricaded her door in the hope the Seraphites would not be able to reach her and her mother. In the event she did, she planned to surrender as she did not feel confident fighting back against them.[2]

Events of The Last of Us Part II[]

In April 2038, Abby Anderson sneaks into Heidi's apartment, whose barricade has been broken, and finds Heidi and Julia no longer there. She can find a note in the apartment block where Sam and James lived that mentions James and his death.[1]
