Captain Mastros was a character in The Last of Us Part I, mentioned in two artifacts which Joel can find. Mastros was a FEDRA officer in the Pittsburgh quarantine zone.[1][2]

Biography[]

Background and early life[]

Little is known about Mastros before the outbreak; he may or may not have already been in the military. At some point after the outbreak, he served in the Pittsburgh quarantine zone.

Due to food shortages and agitation from the Fireflies, there were riots and armed uprisings among the civilian populace of Pittsburgh, which Mastros was forced to deal with for fourteen months. In the closing stages of the rebellion, Mastros reported to his superior officer, Colonel Mackenzie - who was located in the Atlanta QZ - to request permission to abandon the Pittsburgh QZ.[1] Captain Mastros was the highest ranking officer left in Pittsburgh at the time; it is unknown if he was the zone's commander at the start of the uprising.

However, before Mastros could send the note out to his superiors, he and his squad were captured and burned alive by a mob of rebels - all except one soldier who witnessed the event and vowed to avenge his comrades.[2]

Events of The Last of Us Part I[]

In 2033, Joel can find two artifacts that mention Mastros while traveling through Pittsburgh, the abandon zone note that Mastros wrote himself, and in the mob attack note which describes his demise.[3]
