Mark is a character who is mentioned in The Last of Us Part I. He was a civilian who resided in the Boston quarantine zone, and a friend of Ronnie. Mark attempted to use fake ration cards to feed his family during the summer supply shortages of 2033, but was caught, beaten, and detained by the military.[1]
Biography[]
Background and early life[]
Nothing is known about Mark except that he was a survivor of the Cordyceps brain infection pandemic. At some point, he and his family made it to Boston and came under the Federal Disaster Response Agency's protection from the infected.[1] However, his brother was left behind.
Events of The Last of Us Part I[]
During the summer of 2033, supply shortages had started to squeeze the Boston QZ, resulting in multiple weeks of half-rations. Mark attempted to use fake ration cards to secure more food for his family. However, he was caught at the distribution center. Soldiers proceeded to beat him severely and drag him off to FEDRA lockup.
Around the same time, his brother and several survivors from outside the zone attempted to sneak into the Boston QZ with the help of a smuggler. All ultimately became infected when they hid in a spore-infested building while avoiding a military patrol. Mark's brother and his group turned into runners that later attacked a duo of smugglers, of which one accidentally broke his gas mask and became infected, while the other was mauled to death and partially devoured shortly before Joel and Tess killed the infected.
