McKenzie married an unnamed male survivor and survived the initial outbreak of the Cordyceps brain infection. McKenzie was a member of a large group that traveled around the United States to survive.
At some point, the group made their way to Santa Barbara. McKenzie and their husband were captured by the Rattlers and made to work for them as slaves. While there, McKenzie's husband died picking tomatoes for the Rattlers. By 2039, McKenzie managed to escape from the Rattler's dome. They killed a Rattler and left a note by their corpse, warning the Rattlers they would return with their group and enact revenge against the slaver gang for what they did to their husband.[1]
