Gadget was the family dog of the boy who owned a diary and his parents who lived in Lincoln. Following the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak, the boy had to let the dog go as the military refused to allow animals entry into the quarantine zone. The boy's father claimed it was for the best and that Gadget was meant to be in the wild, but the boy dismissed his remarks, having not wanted to leave Gadget behind. It is unknown what happened to him afterwards.[1]
Events of The Last of Us Part I[]
During the summer of 2033, Joel can find the boy's diary that mentions Gadget while making his way to the crashed military truck at Lincoln High School with Ellie and Bill.[2]
