Derek is a character who is mentioned in The Last of Us Part I. He was a civilian who resided in Boston.[1]

Background and early life[]
Derek was a survivor of the Cordyceps brain infection pandemic. At some point, he and his family made it to Boston and came under the United States military's protection from the infected.
While in Boston, he resided or worked in the bookstore and had access to a safe. He was friendly with his neighbors, freely allowing several people to store their belongings within his safe.[1]
Events of The Last of Us Part I[]
Around 2033, Joel can find a note mentioning Derek and his safe. The note also has the code to Derek's safe written on it, which Joel can then use to unlock it and retrieve the equipment left within it.[2]
