Julia Kennedy is a character mentioned in The Last of Us Part II.[1] She was a resident of Seattle who lived in the city after the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak occurred.[2]

Biography[]

Background[]

Julia lived in Seattle in apartment 304 with her mother, Heidi. When the Cordyceps brain infection led to FEDRA locking the city down in to a quarantine zone, the pair were left to fend for themselves as the United States military were not able to secure the entire city. At some point, Heidi fell ill. Fearing her mother would be unable to survive the journey to the area controlled by the military, Julia instead chose to remain in the apartment to look after her.

While living there, two other residents, Sam Howels and James Cooper, left cornbread outside their apartment door alongside a note explaining they were friendly and had also chosen to remain living in the apartment. Julia and Heidi accepted their offer to live and work together. The men, learning Heidi was sick, offered to look after her whenever Julia went out scavenging.

The group lived in the apartment long enough that Seraphites started to move into the area and began terrorizing all those still living in the apartment complex. While Heidi was out scavenging, a group of three Seraphites attacked the apartment area. James and Sam protected Heidi, but James was killed in the fight. When Julia returned, she found Sam had fled, the man fearing more Seraphites would return. He left Julia the combination to his safe and implored Heidi to try to flee. Julia, unable to leave Heidi in her ill state, chose not to and instead barricaded her door in the hope the Seraphites would not be able to reach her and her mother.[2]

Events of The Last of Us Part II[]

In April 2038, Abby Anderson sneaks into Julia's apartment, whose barricade has been broken, and finds Heidi and Julia no longer there. She can find a note in the apartment block the pair lived. She also comes across Sam's safe, which Heidi had not emptied.[1]
