John lived in Seattle. After the Cordyceps brain infection outbreak, John grew discontent living under FEDRA's control in the quarantine zone and decided to join the Washington Liberation Front to fight against them. John was a capable soldier, rising in the ranks to lead his own unit.
The WLF leader Isaac Dixon tasked John with leading his unit to capture the gates that FEDRA controlled to prevent or allow access into the zone. Once secured, he would then coordinate an attack with another unit led by Zelda and signal the double agents the WLF had within the refugee line to launch a surprise attack on the remaining soldiers. Isaac insisted John and Zelda ensure all FEDRA soldiers were killed and then to only allow any remaining refugees into the zone on the condition they swear their allegiance to the WLF.[2]

In 2038, Ellie Williams finds Isaac's note mentioning John while searching for Abby Anderson with Dina.[1]
