Melanie is a character mentioned in The Last of Us: Left Behind. She is a Firefly mentioned by Riley Abel.
It is presumed she told Riley about the power system in the Liberty Gardens mall and that the building's exterior lights didn't work and wouldn't attract unwanted attention. Melanie likely learned this from studying the military's power usage, learning they would cut off power from areas outside of the center of the quarantine zone simply by flipping the circuit breakers.[1]
