Mist Finer is originally one of May's Special Attacks, first appearing in Guilty Gear and make its last appearance with her in Guilty Gear XX Λ Core Plus R.

This would be passed on to Johnny in Guilty Gear X, and become a staple part of his moveset.

Overview[]

May[]

In the original Guilty Gear, May spins her anchor around diagonally upwards. Mashing the button allows her to not only keep spinning the anchor - and do it faster, but to also reflect any mid-level projectiles.

In the Guilty Gear XX series, May swings her anchor in a straight line like a sword, bashing her opponent back. She is also able to delay the attack for up to a second by holding the button, and can exit the stance by pressing Heavy Slash.

Johnny[]

Johnny rapidly slashes his opponent iaido-style in a preset direction:

  • Punch goes diagonally up, knocking the opponent away.
  • Kick goes straight forward, causing a hard knockdown.
  • Slash goes diagonally down, causing the opponent to get launched towards Johnny.

Holding the button puts Johnny into a sword-drawing stance, where he can walk and dash both forwards & backwards, or press Heavy Slash to go back to his neutral stance.

Using Glitter Is Gold increases the power level of Mist Finer by up to 3 levels, altering the properties of each Mist Finer direction:

  • Level 2: Punch causes a guaranteed wall bounce, Kick causes the opponent to slide across the floor, and Slash causes the opponent to fly over Johnny's head.
  • Level 3: all 3 versions start with barrages of slashes; Punch launches the opponent, Kick stuns the opponent, and Slash knocks the opponent away.

Additionally, if the opponent is shrouded by Bacchus Sigh, Mist Finer - regardless of Glitter Is Gold level - becomes unblockable.

In Guilty Gear XX Λ Core up to Plus R, EX Johnny's Mist Finer becomes a counter - if hit by a high or mid-level attack, he will attack accordingly with the button used to activate it. While also being able to walk back and forth during that counter state, Johnny is also able to switch the angle of attack by simply pressing the desired button; Punch, Kick and Slash are as normal.

GGST Turn Up

Deal

In Guilty Gear -Strive-, Glitter is Gold gets replaced with Deal, having Johnny throw a card in the air, which flutters to the ground after a short time - its aerial version, however, have Johnny sharply throw the card down, acting as a projectile. Once a card is actively floating down or in the ground, Johnny can use Mist Finer on the card to activate Turn Up, which launches the opponent as long as they're within range of the card's blast radius.
