Mappa Hunch is one of Slayer's Special Attacks, first appearing in Guilty Gear XX.

Overview[]

Slayer lunges forwards, delivering a solid straight punch to his opponent's midsection with his rear arm.

Holding the button feints the attack, thus becoming Mappa Feint (マッパフェイント, Mappa Feinto?) - however, this cannot be done by EX Slayer in the Guilty Gear XX sub-series; in place of it, he gains rekka-style follow-ups:

Attack Input Description
GGXX Mappa Hunch Overhead

Overhead (中段, Chūdan?, lit. Mid-level)

  • DownDown RightRight + Punch during Mappa Hunch
  • DownDown RightRight + Slash during Overhead (1) or Successive
If used after Mappa Hunch, Slayer does a slow backhand with his rear fist.

If used after Overhead (1), Slayer does an It's Late.

GGXX Under Pressure

Successive (連携, Renkei?, lit. Linking)

DownDown RightRight + Slash during Mappa Hunch Slayer does an Under Pressure.
GGXX Mappa Hunch Low

Low (下段, Gedan?, lit. Low-level)

DownDown RightRight + Kick during Mappa Hunch, Overhead (1) or Successive (1) Slayer trips his opponent up by subtly sweeping their legs with his front foot, shrugging afterwards.
  • Punch during Overhead (1), Successive or Mappa Hunch ->-> Dandy Step
  • Dust during Mappa Hunch -> Step or Mappa Hunch ->-> Dandy Step
Slayer slides forward for a strong straight punch with his rear hand, blasting his opponent back. The Dust version causes a wall splat.

Also one of the follow-ups for the regular Dandy Step.

Mix-up (裏回り, Ura Mawari?, lit. Reverse Turn)

DownDown RightRight + Heavy Slash during Overhead (1) or Successive Slayer teleports behind his opponent.
DownDown RightRight + Dust during Mappa Hunch, Overhead (1) or Successive Slayer does an extremely strong uppercut, creating a vacuum around his hand that launches his opponent a great distance.
GGXX Dandy Step 1

Step (ステップ, Suteppu?)

DownDown RightRight + Heavy Slash during Mappa Hunch Slayer does a Dandy Step. This can be further followed up with the below attacks:
GGXX Mappa Hunch

Mappa Hunch

Punch during Step Slayer does a second Mappa Hunch.
Kick after Step Slayer turns around, then swings his rear hand around for a spinning backhand punch that sets his opponent on fire, causing a hard knockdown.
Heavy Slash after Step Slayer grabs his opponent and bites into their neck. Regains a small chunk of health and staggers the opponent afterwards.
GGXX Dandy Step 2

Dandy Step

Slash after Step Slayer steps through his opponent. This can be further followed up by the below attacks:
Kick after Dandy Step Slayer does a cross-shaped kick combo, launching the opponent.

Also one of the follow-ups for the regular Dandy Step.

GGXX Under Pressure

Under Pressure (アンダープレッシャー, Andā Puresshā?)

Slash after Dandy Step Slayer swipes his rear hand across, releasing a wave of purple energy.

Also one of the follow-ups for the regular Dandy Step.

GGXX Its Late

It's Late (イッツレイト, Ittsu Reito?)

Heavy Slash after Under Pressure or Dandy Step Slayer does a sharp overhead punch with his front hand, causing a soft knockdown.

Also one of the follow-ups for the regular Dandy Step.

Trivia[]

  • In the English versions of Guilty Gear XX, Guilty Gear Isuka and Guilty Gear Judgment, it is called "Mach Punch". If Mach Punch were to be transcribed into Japanese, it will be "マッハパンチ". The actual Japanese spelling of Mappa Hunch is "マッパハンチ".
    • In the English version of Guilty Gear Dust Strikers, it is called "Mappa Hanti", which is how "マッパハンチ" would be romanised using the Kunrei-shiki system.
