Tatami Gaeshi is one of Baiken's Special Attacks, first appearing in the original Guilty Gear, and has been a staple of her moveset since.

Overview[]

Baiken slams her heel on the floor, summoning a tatami mat that tilts up, then crashes back down, launching the opponent on contact. If used in the air, the mat crashes down from the air.

Only in the original Guilty Gear, Baiken can charge Tatami Gaeshi by holding Respect instead of Kick. At level 2, Baiken creates two mats in a row, and level 3 creates three mats in a line; the three-mat version would return in the Guilty Gear XX series as EX Baiken, which would go on to be dubbed Triple Tatami Gaeshi (三枚畳替し / 畳返し, Sanmai Tatami Gaeshi?, lit. Three-Ply Straw-Mat Refacer/Return), which is done by inputting DownDown RightRightDownDown RightRight + Kick, though this can only be used on the ground in the latter series. Despite the input in the XX sub-series, it is not an Overdrive Attack.

Eventually, the Triple version would become a Force Break for normal Baiken in Accent Core Plus R, input with DownDown RightRight + Dust.
