Azami is one of Baiken's Special Attacks, first appearing in Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2.

This replaces her old counterattacks from previous titles and puts them all as one move, most of which can also be used as follow-ups to Suzuran.

Overview[]

Baiken takes a defensive stance, using her sword as if preparing a parry. It can be held, extending the window to catch attacks, and it is done by pressing Slash and Heavy Slash simultaneously, or by pressing the same two buttons and Left or Down or Down Left. After the initial press, only one button needs to be held to preserve the Azami stance (i.e. by holding Slash, mashing Heavy Slash will result in the corresponding follow-up).

This move can be held for two seconds and has seven follow-up attacks. Five of them can be performed only while Baiken is on the ground (all of which she can also perform during Suzuran), and two follow-ups the player can use while she is doing Azami in the air.

After parrying, she can follow up with:

Attack Input Description
GGRev2 Kuchinashi

Kuchinashi (口無, Kuchinashi?, lit. Unspoken)

Punch during standing/crouching Azami Baiken jumps and slashes her opponent upwards. It is her fastest meterless follow-up and a good punish move if done fast enough, and is best used against airborne opponents.
GGRev2 Mawari Baiken

Mawarikomi (回り込み, Mawarikomi?, lit. Wrap-around)

Kick during standing/crouching Azami Baiken passes through her opponent.

This is carried over from Guilty Gear X and XX.

GGRev2 Sakura

Sakura (裂羅, Saku Ra?, lit. Demon Render)

Slash during standing/crouching Azami Baiken stabs her opponent while facing away from them.

Similar to Mawarikomi, it is a move also retained from X and XX.

GGRev2 Rokkonsogi

Rokkonsogi (六根削ぎ, Rokkon Sogi?, lit. Sharpening of the Six Senses)

Heavy Slash during standing/crouching Azami Baiken slashes her opponent while travelling through them.

This move is also a follow-up to Kabari.

GGRev2 Yashagatana

Yashagatana (夜叉刀, Yasha-gatana?, lit. Guardian Deity Sword)

Dust during standing/crouching Azami While attacking, Baiken pulls out a steampunk-looking shotgun that fires a single projectile that stuns the opponent.
GGRev2 Tsubaki

Tsubaki (鍔氣, Tsuba Ki?, lit. Spirit Lance)

Punch or Kick during aerial Azami Baiken does a circular slash over her head.
GGRev2 Kikyou

Kikyou (鬼経, Ki Kyō?, lit. Ogre Split)

Slash or Heavy Slash during aerial Azami Baiken does a falling slash, landing on her butt.
GGRev2 Metsudo Kushodo

Metsudo Kushodo (滅度九正道, Metsudo Ku Shō Dō?, lit. Ninth Path to Nirvana)

DownDown RightRightDownDown RightRight + Heavy Slash during ground/aerial Azami Baiken makes five grappling hooks burst through her kimono sleeve, then uses them to pull her to the other side of the screen while charging through her opponent.

Can only be used in Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2.

Trivia[]

  • Most of Azami and its follow-up attacks' kanji are homophones for flowers;
    • Azami - "thistle" (?).
    • Sakura - "cherry blossom" (?)
    • Tsubaki - "camellia" (椿?)
    • Kikyou - "Chinese bellflower" (桔梗?)
  • Yasha (夜叉?) in Yashagatana is the Japanese name for the yaksha, usually benevolent nature-spirits—or even guardian deities—from Hindu, Jain and Buddhist texts.
