Attention!
This page approximates a widely accepted standard that all editors should normally follow.
Labeled as a Guilty Gear Wiki policy or guideline, changes require consensus.

This Article Layout is an official guide as to how an in- and out-of-universe articles should be structured. There are four types of articles in this wiki: lore articles (characters, terminology, organizations, etc.), gameplay articles, release articles (games, books, etc.), and other (any article that doesn't belong into any of the aforementioned types, such as songs).

General[]

  • An opening quote is welcome for almost any type of article. Quotes can be said by the article's subject, or said by someone else about the article's subject. Do not use links within a quote, unless it is the only mention in the article of a certain subject.
  • The opening quote is followed by the corresponding infobox templates. E.g. A character article will have a {{Infobox Character}} template.
  • If default sections are not applicable, do not include them in the article.
  • All articles must have an "intro" paragraph, however short, in which the first mention of the article's name is in bold. In case of character articles, as part of our soft-spoiler policy, the intro's content is an introduction with information concerning their first game appearance only.
  • Galleries include only official images. See Project:Media policy.
  • After the specific article's body content is finished, three sections follow: "External links", "Notes" (both optional, although the latter uses the {{notelist}} template), and "References" (use the {{reflist}} template).
  • The articles must close with their corresponding navbox templates. E.g. A lore-related article will end with a {{Navbox Lore}} template.

Description
  • Design contains information regarding the overall physical look of the article's subject in the case of lore and gameplay articles. In releases, it contains a concise summary of gameplay information linking to specialized articles, or a list of contents in albums and book articles.
  • Story provides an overview of its role in the overall narrative of the series.
    • Generally, this section should have no sub-sections, except for release articles, where a division between Summary and Characters should be present.
    • In lore-related articles, this is an account of the notable events in the article subject's life/existence. Only character articles may be sub-divided into "Background" (in which the past tense must be used) and "<main game>" (written in the present tense). Spin-offs and different outcomes of Story Mode may be optionally included, always between the templates {{canon}} and {{endcanon}}.
    • The level of detail in this section is up to the individual author, but a middle ground between succinct and lengthy is generally preferable; note that citations lead to full scripts, so err on the side of brevity.
    • In lore and gameplay articles, it is written in the manner of a biography; therefore, no game titles are allowed, and citation is required.
  • Development or Traits or Overview are sections exclusive to release, lore, or gameplay articles, respectively. Citation is required in any of the three.
    • Traits in character articles possess the sub-sections Personality and Abilities. The latter is for showing any notable skills, powers, or knowledge possessed by the article's subject (written from a lore perspective), then a short paragraph about their playstyle. A {{main}} link to a command list or gameplay subpage can, and should appear, if applicable.
  • Credits or Music or Details are sections exclusive to release, lore, or gameplay articles, respectively.
    • Credits either lists personnel involved on the page or a {{main}} link to a "/Credits" subpage if it is sufficiently long.
    • Music provides a list of character's individual and rivalry themes, and a music sample using {{listen}}. See Project:Media policy.
    • Details [...]
  • Material, used in release articles for a list of related material (e.g. albums, guides, artbooks, etc.), or Quotes, used for attack and character articles. The latter links to a "/Quotes" subpage via {{main}}; a short intro can be included about their speech mannerisms.
  • Allusions is bulleted list for references to other works. Not everything is an allusion to music, so exercise caution.
  • Trivia is another bulleted list for interesting tidbits, or information that doesn't fit in any of the previous sections.
  • Gallery may include up to six images on the article's subject; anymore than that amount means, more often than not, the inclusion of only a few select images and a {{main}} link to a "/Gallery" subpage. See Project:Media policy.
  • External links is a list of links to official Arc System Works websites on the article's subject.
