Pokémon Go Misunderstood Mischief Hoopa quest guide

Pokémon Go’s latest Special Research Task “Misunderstood Mischief” features the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa. In our Pokémon Go guide, we’ll list out the steps and rewards for doing the Hoopa quest, as well as tips to help you complete the quests.

Hoopa actually unlocks fairly early in this quest line, with its second form nowhere to be seen during the Special Research. The quest steps all rolled out slowly over time, though they are now all added in the game.

Hoopa Research Step 1 of 16

• Make 10 nice throws (1 Incense)
• Use an Incense (10 Poké Balls)
• Take 3 snapshots of wild psychic-type Pokémon (10 Nanab Berries)

Reward: Gothita encounter, 1,000 XP, 500 Stardust

• Claim reward (720 Stardust)

Reward: 720 XP

Hoopa Research Step 3 of 16

• Make 5 curveball throws (15 Poké Balls)
• Catch 10 different species of Pokémon (15 Great Balls)
• Earn 5,000 Stardust (3 Max Revives)

Reward: Hoopa encounter, 1,000 XP, 1,000 Stardust

• Claim reward (720 Stardust)

• Power up Pokémon 10 times (15 Great Balls)
• Catch 20 psychic-type Pokémon (Abra encounter)
• Evolve 3 psychic-type Pokémon (10 Revives)

Reward: Wobbuffet encounter, 10 Hyper Potions, 10 Inkay Candy

• Take a snapshot of your buddy (Furfrou encounter)
• Catch a Furfrou (1 Fast TM)
• Earn a heart with your buddy (1 Charged TM)

Reward: Minccino encounter, 1 Unova Stone, 15 Furfrou Candy

• Claim reward (720 Stardust)

Reward: 720 XP

Hoopa Research Step 9 of 16

• Make 3 nice curveball throws (20 Slowpoke Candy)
• Transfer 30 Pokémon (Galarian Slowpoke encounter)
• Evolve one Slowpoke (1,990 XP)

Reward: Shedinja encounter, 5 Max Potion, 40 Slowbro Mega Energy

• Earn 3 candies walking with your buddy (10 Yamask Candy)
• Catch 30 ghost-type Pokémon (10 Phantump Candy)
• Catch 30 dark-type Pokémon (10 Pumpkaboo Candy)

Reward: Halloween costume Pikachu encounter, 15 Ultra Balls, 40 Gengar Mega Energy

Hoopa Research Step 13 of 16

• Make a new friend (Meditite encounter)
• Send 10 gifts to friends (Chinchou encounter)
• Use 20 berries to help catch Pokémon (2 Silver Pinap Berries)

Reward: 1 Poffin, 10 Dedenne Candy, Blitzle encounter

Removing a friend and re-adding them will complete the friend requirement, while not losing any friendship progress.
