Raikou best counters and weaknesses

Raikou is not a particularly hard Pokémon to take down. To beat it with ease, consider using ground-type moves. Here’s a set of ‘mon that’ll work as Raikou’s best counters and weaknesses:

• Groudon with Mud Shot and Earthquake
• Rhyperior with Mud Slap and Earthquake
• Garchomp with Mud Shot and Earth Power

As you can probably tell, there’s a pattern here. If your Pokémon has high CP and knows Earthquake, Mud Shot, and/or Mud Slap, you can probably toss them in to take on Raikou.

If you raid during sunny or clear weather, ground-type moves will also get a boost.

Raikou does best with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge, once you nab one. Swapping out one or the other with Volt Switch or Thunderbolt is also fine if you’re short on TMs, but they do a smidgen less damage.

Can Raikou be Shiny?

Lucky players may encounter a Shiny Raikou. If you do see a Shiny, you’ll catch it with the first ball you hit it with, so use a Pinap Berry to score some extra candy.
