In Pokémon Go, Combee can evolve into Vespiquen, but it has the same requirements as it does in the mainline games: Combee has to be female.

This difference isn’t clear at first, but not only is there a visual marker to pay attention to, but an in-game evolution button will appear to make things more apparent once a female has been caught.

This page shows this difference so you know what to look out for — as well as some tips on how to get more Candy and increase your chances of finding a female Combee.

How to evolve Combee into Vespiquen in Pokémon Go

To get Vespiquen in Pokémon Go, you need a female Combee and 50 Combee Candy.

If you’re not seeing the evolution prompt, then your Combee is male, and cannot evolve. You can check the gender of the Combee by looking at the gender symbol next to its health bar on its information page. Female Combee also has a large red triangle on its bottom face, making it easy to tell apart from its male version.

Vespiquen isn’t particularly good in PvP or in raiding, but it’s important to grab one to complete your Pokédex.

If you’re having a hard time getting Combee candy, make sure to use Pinap Berries on every one you find, or if you have caught a handful you no longer need, transfer them during a Spotlight Hour, which has a double Candy transfer bonus.

Combee typically has increased spawn rates during spring-based events, so that’s the best time to try and grab as many of the bee Pokémon as possible. If you are after a female in particular, then remember to look for that distinctive red triangle to save you wasting Poké Balls and precious storage space.
