Moltres, the fire-type Legendary bird Pokémon, is one of Pokémon Go’s rotating five-star raid targets.

The fire-type bird Pokémon appears in raids every now and then and it’s definitely worth collecting.

To take on Moltres, we recommend using rock-type Pokémon. Consider bringing any of the following counters:

  • Rampardos with Smack Down and Rock Slide
  • Rhyperior with Smack Down and Rock Wrecker
  • Tyranitar with Smack Down and Stone Edge
  • Blastoise with Water Gun and Hydro Cannon

Just like Articuno, Moltres takes four times the usual damage from rock-type moves, so you should definitely use those. If you have Mega Evolved Blastoise or Gyarados, you should definitely bring them. Water-types will help get the job done, so bring along any of the water-type starters with their Community Day move, Hydro Cannon, to help deal some damage.

If you’re lucky, you may even find it Shiny. Remember that if you find a Shiny Pokémon in a raid, you will catch it guaranteed, so use a Pinap Berry on it rather than a Razz Berry.

Moltres is a perfectly fine fire-type attacker, and it can even be used as a very good flying-type attacker. For fire-type moves, use Fire Spin and Overheat. For flying-type, you’ll want Wing Attack and Sky Attack, which is a Legacy move.
