Vivienne "Viv" Odusanya is one of the recurring characters in Sex Education. She is portrayed by Chinenye Ezeudu.

In season 2, Viv is introduced as one of the best students of Moordale Secondary, and a member of Aptitude Scheme and the Quiz Heads. She states that she has no interest in making friends in Secondary School as that is her time to focus on University. However, she does express a romantic interest towards her fellow Quiz Head member Dex. She also befriends Jackson, who helps her to make a move on Dex and in return Viv helps Jackson with preparing for the school play. Viv's also bonding with rest of the girls during detention, supporting Aimee in dealing with her trauma after the assault.

Prior to season 3, Viv loses her interest in Dex and finds a boyfriend on the Internet, with whom she often skypes. In the beginning, she's also a big fan of Hope's changes at the school, becoming the Head Girl, thereby taking over from Jackson. This causes a tough time in her and Jackson's friendship, especially when Viv starts to be jealous of Jackson, who develops a bond with a new student, Cal. Eventually, Viv notices the dark side of Hope's reigns, realizing she doesn't care about the future of her students, and alongside Jackson, decides to prevent Hope from creating a sex-free campus instead of Moordale. After their plan turns out to be successful, they face sad consequences of it. It ends up with the closure of Moordale Secondary, which forces them to look for new school alternatives to finish their education.

Prior to season 4 Viv and Eugene break up, as they decide to focus on their last term at high school. After the closure of Moordale Secondary, Viv starts attending Cavendish College and is annoyed after getting to know that the school does not rank its students and everyone is in the same set. She also meets a boy called Beau, whom she later starts dating, deciding to give him a chance. Viv supports Jackson, who's worried about the possibility of having a testicular cancer. With time, Beau starts being extremely jealous of Viv, controlling her and her phone, eventually hurting her in her arm. After all, with the encouragement of Jackson and Aimee, Viv finally dumps Beau.

Season 2[]

Viv is assigned as Jackson's tutor during his injury-related break from swimming. At the beginning, she behaves coldly against him, but after a while they become friends. She helps Jackson study for his role of Romeo in the school play. He gives her advice on how to get closer to her crush and fellow Quiz Head member, Dex.

Later, Viv walks in on Jackson while he has a panic attack at Otis' party and was about to hurt himself again. She gives him emotional support, but also tells him that he needs professional help and expresses worry about his safety. After his defensive reaction, Viv tells Jackson's mothers about her worries. At first, Jackson is angry at her about that, but later he understands her actions. At the end of season 2, their friendship remains close.

Season 3[]

Viv is now dating Eugene, with whom she frequently sexts, although she is at first bewildered by his medieval fantasies. She initially sees the arrival of Hope as new headmistress as a great opportunity for her academic career, especially after Hope appoints Viv as the new Head Girl, thus taking Jackson's position. This puts her quite at odds with Jackson, who Viv accuses of suddenly caring about the students and their well-being only to please his new crush, Cal. Eventually though, Viv realizes the nefarious side of Hope's management of the school, and secretly records her as Hope clearly shows her disdain for the students and their concerns. Viv transfers the recording to the other students, and takes part in the open school show which clearly states the students' pride regarding talking about sex. However, this eventually backfires as the school now faces closure, but it still helps Viv to make amends with Jackson and Cal.

Beau (ex-boyfriend; enemy)[]

Beau is Viv's new boyfriend in season 4. They meet in maths class, when Beau offers to take notes for her when Viv's tablet breaks down. Viv tries to resist to concentrate on her studies, but in the end she gives in. Beau is intensely jealous, especially of Jackson, who is still good friends with Viv. He becomes ever more impatient and starts displaying seriously worrying behaviour, like checking her phone when she isn't watching, grabbing her wrist and hurting her in a fit of anger and continuously asking jealous questions. In the end Viv breaks up with him over text and when he comes to try and get her back, she clearly draws the line. He then leaves her alone.

Eugene (ex-boyfriend)[]

Eugene is Viv's boyfriend who sexted her throughout her school trip to France. Eugene was into medieval fantasy. Later, when Viv fell into a bin, Eugene helped get her out.

Prior to season 4, Viv and Eugene broke up, as the two decided it would be best for them to focus on school since it was their senior year.

Dex Thompson (former crush; former teammate)[]

Dex is Viv's former crush and Quiz Heads teammate. Jackson gave Viv advice on how to talk to Dex and get his attention, but Dex showed little interest in Viv, often referring to her as Bev. After witnessing Dex repeatedly talk about himself and show off, Viv began to lose interest.

Jackson Marchetti (best friend)[]

Jackson is Viv's former tutee and best friend. Viv tutored Jackson in maths and helped him get a B+ on a maths test. She encouraged him to pursue interests outside of swimming and helped him prepare for his audition for the Romeo & Juliet play. In return, Jackson helped Viv talk to Dex, as Viv had a crush on him.

After Viv learned that Jackson self-harmed, she informed his parents, after what Jackson got mad at her, ending their friendship. The two eventually made up in season 2 finale.

In the new term, they remained best friends, spending much time together. Everything changed after Viv started to suck up to Hope, and Jackson developed a relationship with new student, Cal. The two kind of grew apart, but eventually in season 3 finale, they organized 'The Thing' against Hope together and made up once again.

Despite tough times, Jackson and Viv were able to rebuild their season 2 bond after the closure of Moordale Secondary. Some time later, the two start attending Cavendish College, where Viv meets a boy called Beau, whom she later starts dating. Jackson lets Viv know about a lump he has on one of his balls.Then, Viv starts being very supportive of him and starts giving him a lot of her attention, which starts annoying Beau, who starts being abnormally jealous of Viv. Beau shows his real face in front of her before Viv's mock exam. He gets jealous of some guy that just asked Viv a question about the exam and threatens her. After this incident, Viv was crying the whole evening in her room, when suddenly, Jackson comes in, starting talking about his mothers not telling him the truth about his biological father, but after seeing Viv like that, starts supporting her right away. Despite Beau's behavior, Viv goes with Jackson to his biological father's house and the two later take part in seeking for Cal. In the series finale, Viv dumps Beau and Jackson's proud of her.

Aimee Gibbs (friend)[]

Viv was one of the girls who comforted Aimee after she got assaulted on the bus. The two developed their friendship even more after starting their education at Cavendish. Out of Aimee's ask, Viv comes to the funeral of Maeve's mother. Aimee also supports and advises Viv after she starts having doubts about her relationship with Beau. Aimee's proud of Viv after she finally decides to break up with him. Then, Aimee tells Viv she's amazing and they go to the school fundraiser together.

Ola Nyman (friend)[]

Viv and Ola met after Ola started attending Moordale Secondary, and more specifically, probably in Aptitude Scheme classes they both attended. Girls got closer after the detention they and other girls had in episode 2.7. After detention, Viv, Ola and other girls went to a junkyard to smash some stuff and ease their pain.

During the school trip to France, Viv is hanging around Lily and Ola, while sexting with her boyfriend, Eugene, she complains about, as she doesn't understand his fantasy. After Ola and Lily had a fight, Ola and Viv share an emotional talk, during which Ola tells Viv about her late mother, advicing her not to break up with Eugene just because of his unusual fantasy. Ola also complains to Viv about Lily, who doesn't understand why she misses her mother so much. Eventually, Ola advices Viv to tell Eugene what she'd like him to sext her. Viv decides to abide by Ola's advice.

During the school trip to France, Viv is hanging around Lily and Ola, while sexting with her boyfriend, Eugene, she complains about, as she doesn't understand his fantasy. Lily suggests Viv to try to get into it, and later decides to help Viv to text a message to him, calling herself an erotica genius. After Viv reads a message Lily texted to Eugene, she decides not to send it, as it's not what she'd text. When Lily is humiliated by Hope, Viv feels sorry for Lily, watching the whole scene while sitting in the audience, unable to do anything.

Maeve is Viv's friend and former Quiz Heads teammate. The girls also had a detention together in episode 2.7. After detention, Viv, Maeve and other girls went to a junkyard to smash some stuff and ease their pain.

At first, Viv didn't like Cal, or maybe even perceived them as her rival, as Viv was jealous of the friendship they developed with Jackson. Cal didn't like Viv either. They saw that Viv was sucking up to Hope, which annoyed them. During the school trip to France, Viv seems to be jealous of Jackson, because he spends all the time with Cal. Despite that, in season 3 finale Viv and Cal finally get along well. They organize 'The Thing' against Hope, finally becoming friends.

Personality[]

Viv is one of the smartest students at school. She is very ambitious in her academic career and has a fully packed schedule. Due to this, she states to not have any friends, since she will have time for a social life at university. However, Viv helps someone when asked, and gives Jackson helpful advice on his role in the school play. When walking in on Jackson during his panic attack, Viv shows compassion but also reason and rationality. She is a brave and caring friend when someone is important to her. But she can also behave coldly and hostile towards people she doesn't like.[2]

She has a crush on Dex Thompson and manages to get his interest. However, she discovers that his interests are strongly limited to his Rubik's cube, and her romantic interest fades.
