Guilty Gear -Strive- Starter Guide -6 - Potemkin

Potemkin is a recurring playable character since the original Guilty Gear.

Stats[]

Playstyle[]

Potemkin is a grappler, a character archetype whose primary offensive tools are throws and command throws. However, his command grab is only a small part of his overall gameplan, as he uses short blockstrings combined with approaching moves to overwhelm and confuse his opponent, then punish their reaction to his pressure. He is one of the—if not the—slowest character and has difficulty approaching and closing gaps, but is formidable when he gets close to his opponent. He also has long-range normal attacks with relatively high single-hit damage, and has one of the highest defense and stun resistances.

He is able to deal massive amounts of damage whenever he closes in with a command throw, his signature Potemkin Buster, or his Overdrive, the Heavenly Potemkin Buster. However, players shouldn't depend on Busters alone, especially if the opponent is overly cautious.

Potemkin's biggest disadvantage is his extremely slow walking cycle and lack of a dash. However, he has four specials that allow him to move closer and potentially avoid the opponent's offense while doing so: Hammerfall, Mega Fist, F.D.B., and Slide Head. Of them, Harmmerfall allows Potemkin to lunge forward with armor and smacks the opponent that is effective against single-hit projectiles, or an opponent using Slash to poke. He has the best ground throw range, anti-air grabs, a full screen unblockable that hits the floor, a projectile reflecting move.
