Guilty Gear Xrd[]

Compared to Guilty Gear 2 Raven had a rather significant overhaul in his transition back to the 2D genre. The only moves he would retain are Schmerz Berg, Gebrechlich Licht & Verzweifelt - the rest of his arsenal would be completely new.

One of the unique aspects of Raven in the Xrd series is that his forward air dash is modified so that he dives in a low arc towards the opponent, which also does a small amount of damage if he collides with them. Additionally, even after he bashes into the opponent after his air dash, he can continue the combo, still registering as him being airborne.

Raven's Left + Punch is a rapid jab that can be repeated endlessly. As to be expected, this does minimal damage, though it can be a good poke and help confirm his Special Attacks (as listed below). Using Down + Kick in the air makes Raven do a falling knee drop, halting any forward momentum, which can be good to bait anti-airs.

What Raven excels in the most is zoning, especially with his Schmerz Berg & Gebrech projectiles, as well as Scharf Kugel, which becomes an anti-air as of Rev 2. The Grausam Impuls claw attack also has very good range, and is relatively fast, making it a good combo ender. Wachen Zweig is a command grab that acts as an anti-air with its Slash version, while the Heavy Slash version comes out slower, but grabs standing opponents.

Raven's Excitement mechanic is the key to doing serious damage. By using Give it to me HERE, his Excitement gauge gradually goes up on its own, though if he takes damage during the stance, it gets taken as white damage and fills the gauge faster, which alters the properties of Grausam Impuls, Scharf Kugel, Wachen Zweig grab and, most noticeably, his Getreuer Overdrive, which gradually adds more hits with the more Excitement he has.
