The following page is an overview of Venom's gameplay in the Guilty Gear series. He is a playable character from Guilty Gear X up until Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2.

Overview[]

Guilty Gear X[]

Armed with his pool cue, Venom is an unique character who is able to set up to five pool balls on screen in various formations through his Generate Ball move and then hit the balls with his Normal Attacks, Special Attacks, and even other balls for offense.

These are neither an outright projectile or trap, as by themselves balls do not do any damage; instead, they need to be hit in order to work offensively. This can be done by using any normal attack that utilizes his cue (Slash and Heavy Slash, especially), or any of the following attacks—Stinger Aim, Carcass Raid, Double Head Morbid, Mad Struggle, Red Hail—to set them off in the direction he wants. Any balls generated from Stinger Aim, Carcass Raid and Red Hail can also hit any other balls previously set by Venom for tricky trajectories. Venom can also Teleport to the last set ball.

Thanks to his moveset, Venom can cover all ranges, from mid-range pokes with his cue to using the balls to hit the opponent from any range and direction (this may take a lot of practice, however). Although this makes him a good zoning character, his strongest feature is his ability to set up pressure. At the same time, it requires the player to have strong fundamental defense due to his lack of reversals.[1]

Guilty Gear XX[]

Only in the XX series, his EX form's versions of Stinger Aim and Carcass Raid become regular commands (DownDown RightRight + Slash or Heavy Slash for Stinger Aim, RightDownDown Right + Slash or Heavy Slash for Carcass Raid) instead of charging, though these versions lose the ability to charge the ball; this would be resolved with the introduction of Object Ball, stocking up to three balls to increase the size and power of the ball he is about to hit out of the aforementioned attacks.

Guilty Gear Xrd[]

In the Xrd series, Venom gains a new Overdrive: Bishop Runout. This creates a large red ball that lingers on the stage and can be hit like any of his other balls, adding a burning effect too. If any balls have been set on the field, Bishop Runout absorbs them to make it bigger and increase its active time.
