Downloadable content (ダウンロードコンテンツ, Daunrōdo Kontentsu?), or DLC for short, is a recurring element in the Guilty Gear series, that was first implemented on Guilty Gear 2 -Overture-. It consists of additional content made available after a game's initial release.

Overview[]

Downloadable content is created for an already released game and distributed through the internet, and may be either be added for no extra cost or—more often—when players pay an extra mount of money besides the game's base price. Throughout the series, paid content has taken the form of additional playable characters, battle stages and colors, while free downloads have mostly consisted of quality-of-life updates, such as patches and bug fixes.

Other major updates have been the releases of new game versions (serving as permanent replacements) at a lower price for those who own the previous title, such as the Λ Core Plus Append Edition for Guilty Gear XX Λ Core owners,[1] the Λ Core Plus R patches for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360,[2] or the Rev 2 Upgrade Package for Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator-.[3]

Details[]

Guilty Gear 2 -Overture-[]

Besides patches, Overture has three downloadable elements of note: an additional character, Raven, released on June 5, 2008;[4] an additional stage, Holy Knights' Fortress, and an alternate costume, "Extra Sol", both released on August 19, 2008.[5] All are available by default on the Steam release.

Guilty Gear Xrd[]

Both in Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- and -Revelator-, downloadable content consists of playable characters (three for the base games, plus two more for Rev 2), extra color palettes, and system voices. These can be bought separately for each character or in full sets.

Guilty Gear -Strive-[]

Downloadable content in Guilty Gear -Strive- includes additional characters, stages and colors, as well as the Another Story episode. These are divided into "season passes", bundles at a discount in comparison to purchasing each DLC individually.

Trivia[]
