Baiken (梅喧バイケン) is a character from Arc System Works' Guilty Gear series. She first appears as a DLC guest character in Samurai Shodown (2019).

She is voiced by Mayumi Asano, her current Japanese voice actress since the Guilty Gear Xrd series.

Appearance[]

Baiken has long pink hair worn in a ponytail, as well as peach eyes. A red tattoo adorns her right eye and forehead, while her permanently-closed left one has a scar over it, and wears a goggle-like eye patch with a tsuba in it. Baiken is also an amputee; in place of her missing right arm, she has a clawed grappling hook alongside other weapons such as a slashing fan, cannon, shotgun, etc.

Her appearance in Samurai Shodown (2019) and The King of Fighters mobile games is based on her appearance in the Guilty Gear Xrd series; a revealing red, black and white kimono with a torn right sleeve, as well as black greaves and sandals.

Personality[]

Hailing from an alternate future reality where mankind has discovered the limitless resources of magic in the start of the 21st Century and in turn has mostly discarded scientific technologies for the sake of the environment, Baiken is a self willed warrior whose life has been long marred with painful bereavement and extreme struggle.

Through mankind's creations of the Gears, living monstrous creatures created from infusing humans and animals with magic made for military purposes, their rebellion against their creators began when the nation of Japan was wiped out by the "first" Gear, Justice, beginning the Crusades, a genocidal war on humanity that lasted for 100 years. As the last remnants of the Japanese race were considered living treasures, Baiken and her family were one of these last Japanese lineages sent to live in protective colonies made for them around the world, but during the Crusades, Baiken's colony was one of the most unfortunate ones to fall to battle, and first handed witnessed the destruction and death of her community as the only sole survivor.

As such, Baiken is an aggressive, impulsive and anti-social person motivated solely by revenge, and her sole drive is wanting to kill a demon-like culprit who goes by the name "That Man", not the Gear Maker who went by "That Man" for years (it's a long story). She has remained bitter over her family's demise and intensely hates Gears. She tolerates a small handful of characters, such as Delilah, and to a certain extent, Anji Mito. Though she dislikes the idea of the Japanese being treated like a special race, she occasionally shows pride towards her heritage. Baiken also comes off as a masculine female character, but despite her rough personality, she is capable of showing compassion and mercy.

Powers[]

  • Ki Manipulation: Being of Japanese descent, Baiken possess the ability to manipulate Ki in the form of seals, although she is not reliant upon it nor as versatile in its usage as others in the series.
    • Object Summoning: She also seems to have knowledge of summoning magic in order to conjure tatami mats for her attacks.
    • Immortality: Because of the correlation of her home's destruction and the time when it happened, it is strongly believed Baiken has attained an immortality gained from her sheer aggression and strong will to live along with her Ki powers.

Fighting Style[]

Boasting the claim that there is nothing her blade cannot cut, Baiken is considered to be a fearsome fighter, using her secret weapons and traditional Japanese katana with great skill, despite the loss of her left eye and right arm. Her secret weapons, designed to surprise her opponents, are hidden within the sleeve of her severed right arm: a Japanese mace, a feudal cannon, a bladed fan, a chain rope, a hook, a claw and a spear.

Music[]

  • Smoking Hot - Samurai Shodown (2019)
  • ROKUMON - The King of Fighters All Star (also her theme in Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2)
