Basic house

A basic house with the Bearded Merchant inside.

Merchants are friendly creatures who serve as shopkeepers to the player. A merchant will move in when their respective spawn item is placed in a valid house.

Interacting with a merchant will open their shop menu. In the shop menu the player can purchase items with Ancient Coins, or sell items to obtain Ancient Coins. Each merchant has a limited stock of items, and it will take some time (see below) for their shop to refresh after one item is out of stock.

There are a total of 5 merchants and 5 respective spawning items in the game.

Housing requirements[]

The following requirements must be met for a merchant to move in:

  1. A room smaller than 64 tiles floor space (8×8).
  2. At least one floor tile free of furniture (making the practical minimum size 2x2).
  3. A Bed (can be shared as player's spawn point).
  4. The merchant does not have an existing Bed set as their spawn point.

Neither lighting or a door are technically needed in order for them to move in. Walls and floor can be any material. Once all conditions are met, the merchant will arrive immediately.

Seasonal Merchant Seasonal Merchant Seasonal Calendar Seasonal Calendar Does not accept Ancient Coins like other merchants. Trades for seasonal items and decorations.
Fishing Merchant Fishing Merchant Pile of chum Pile of chum Sells basic fish, bait and fishing equipment.
Brave Merchant Brave Merchant Nuclear Battery Nuclear Battery Sells miscellaneous items and the Bait Pillar.

  • Merchants will attempt to restock once every 25–35 real-world minutes.
