Kazuto Kirigaya (桐ヶ谷 和人 Kirigaya Kazuto?), more commonly known by his avatar name Kirito (キリト?), is the main protagonist of the Sword Art Online franchise who makes a cameo appearance in Tales of Link, Tales of the Rays, and Tales of Arise.

History[]

Tales of the Rays: Mirrage Prison[]

Fateful Encounter[]

In Tales of the Rays, Kirito and Asuna are about to log in to ALfheim Online when they are taken into Tir Na Nog. Shocked when they find themselves in the armor they wore while they were trapped in SAO, the two begin to realize that they are not in ALO. Even worse, they cannot log out either. As the couple look around for other players for more information, they slowly discover that the world they are stuck in is, in fact, physical. Eventually, they come across Mileena Weiss, Rita Mordio, Colette Brunel, who are all dressed and armed similarly to their friends, and Kocis, before being attacked by a sudden monster. Luckily, everyone manages to escape unharmed. The newcomers explain that they are in a "play space" belonging to someone named Wiseman. Following Kirito and Asuna's data trail, Yui appears, and explains that this play space is a construct of ALO and Tir Na Nog merged together. Deciding to make due with what they have, Asuna teaches Colette how to use her sword while Kirito gives Rita as much insight as he can on the PGM Ultima Ratio Hecate II she's using.

Eventually, the group wanders into a town full of giant robots called Tarlows. Questioning the merging realities, Kirito goes deep in thought until being pulled on by Rita to help fight the Tarlows. As they go deeper and deeper into the level, they come across The Gleam Eyes. Despite Kirito memorizing its attacks from before, the reality of the other world has made the minotaur more feral and proves to be more of a challenge than when it was just data. It takes the efforts of everyone to finally subdue the Floor Boss. Afterwards, Yui's connection is restored, and she, Kirito and Asuna log out, returning home.

Tales of Arise[]

Kirito and Asuna both appear in a collaboration DLC pack for Tales of Arise. They can be encountered in the Training Grounds of Viscint, right after the party departs for Mahag Saar. After greeting them, the two agree to fight in the arena.

Appearance and Personality[]

Kirito Icon (TotR)

Kirito's clothes consist of black pants with a black belt that had a large silver buckle, a black V-necked shirt that is worn underneath a black trench-coat with gray lining going down the sleeves, and black boots with silver plates to protect his shins. He has a silver plate worn on the left side of his coat, and a pair of black fingerless gloves. He wears a strap that goes over his right shoulder and under it to wrap around his left side.

Kirito is someone who is not good with words, and can be quite direct. This is due to him not having many friends and closing others off because of his love for computers. Thus, he can appear to be rude to others. Sometimes, he actually seems to enjoy angering and teasing people as well. Also, from time to time, Kirito can be quite overconfident thinking he can do things others cannot. However, Kirito is actually a kind person, willing to sacrifice himself to help others. He also tends to comfort others when they experience hardship. Kirito is almost always a calm and collected character, rarely showing any signs of distress.

Fighting Style[]

Kirito Cut-in (TotR)

In Tales of the Rays, Kirito fights with the Elucidator in hand and at times the Dark Repulser on the other hand. He uses several artes derived from the Original Sword Skills (OSS) he uses in the original Sword Art Online franchise, including Vertical Arc, Snake Bite, Rage Spike, Vorpal Strike, and Starburst Stream.

In Tales of Arise, Kirito starts off with the Night Sky Sword. He toys with his opponents using his flowing swordplay and repeatedly powerful attacks. At half HP, he will draw the Blue Rose Sword. Kirito uses several attacks inspired by the Sacred Arts, and can even block Alphen's Burning Wave.
