Haseo (ハセヲ, Hasewo^?) is the avatar of Ryou Misaki (三崎亮, Misaki Ryoo^?), a character from the .hack franchise who makes a cameo appearance in Tales of the Rays.

History[]

Ryou Misaki is a sophomore student attending a famous private high school. He lives alone in Tokyo, and his father owns a major company. Living in an alternate timeline of Earth where the world has focused greatly on lawful control over network communications and the internet, Ryou is a storied player of the extremely popular MMORPG, The World. He was once the player behind the aggressive and trolling Player Killer Sora, but lost all memory of it and The World after being Data Drained by Skeith, a dangerous and enigmatic in-game figure related to The World's blackboxed origins. In reality, he was considered one of many victims of the Twilight Incident, or the Second Worldwide Network Crisis. Meanwhile, Sora's data continued on as a vagrant AI and eventually reunited him as Skeith.

Because he has no memories of the event and his parents covered up that period of time in his life, in 2017, Ryou decides to play The World R:2 after talking to a friend who used to play its previous version, The World. He visits Shino Nanao, a fellow player who is in a coma, at the hospital everyday.

In The World R:2, his player data has him play as an Adept Rogue, a special multi-class for those seeking the ability to become a jack of all trades cover class. His progression as an Adept Rogue has him level up as according to his weapons tiers: Dual Blades (daggers/short swords), allowing him to be a mobile and agile attacker; Broadswords, giving him a powerful edge for facing off against armored and hulking foes; and finally, Scythes, which combine speed and range to cut through and push back swathes of foes at a time.

Appearance and Personality[]

Haseo appears in his third form, with spiky black and red-gradient tipped protrusions littered all over his armor. His torso and abdomen are covered by a tight, leathery purple piece with a red tattoo on it, akin to his initial 1st form. His facial marks are two curves on his cheeks, each with multiple juts coming out as they run down his face, likening to scars. In this form, he gains the ability to use his Flick Reaper job, Weapon Change, and Skeith the 2nd.

Haseo initially was very friendly when joining The World R:2, until being tricked by a group of Player Killers who took advantage of his naivety. After this event, he becomes cold and self-centered, although he holds a soft spot for Shino. He finds it hard to get close to people, as his previous experience with the PKers resulted in him being betrayed. When Shino was attacked by Tri-Edge, he stopped at nothing to find out what happened to her and tried get his revenge. As he progressed, Haseo learned to trust his new friends and grew as a person. Though not as warm, he is a great leader and is willing to risk everything for those he hold dear. Also, despite his profession as the PKKer "Terror of Death" in Roots, Haseo hates rumors and forums, disdainfully calling it "idle chatter". His preferred sources for information are PKs and "professional victims" like Bordeaux and Midori, respectively, as they are far more likely to encounter the mysterious PKer, Tri-Edge, than the rumor-mills on the BBS.

In Tales of the Rays, Haseo fights using three different weapons and several artes derived from abilities in the .hack series.

Trivia[]

• In Tales of the Rays, Haseo uses the Spin Gai Gu as his default weapon, as well as the Broad Demon and the Scythe Shouxiao.
