Blitz Shield is a defensive move that appears in the Guilty Gear series, currently exclusive to the Guilty Gear Xrd games. At the cost of some Tension, it repels certain attacks and stuns the enemy.

Overview[]

Blitz Shields can be used by pressing Heavy Slash + another attack button (Punch or Kick or Slash) in a neutral state on the ground or in the air; crouching requires Down or Down Right as well. Using up 25% Tension, the move places the character in a defensive state that will repel the opponent's attack and stun them, which may help gain momentum. However, the repelled opponent (temporarily invulnerable to Throws) can respond with a Blitz Shield themself. It does not protect against Throws, maxed Blitz Attacks, or Overdrive Attacks. In Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator-, successfully shielding an attack hit will regain half the Tension used (12.5%) and a bit of Burst Gauge.

Furthermore, in Revelator and its update, guarding with a Blitz Shield while on the ground enables the player to perform a Blitz Attack (ブリッツシールド チャージアタック, Burittsu Shīrudo Chāji Atakku?, lit. Blitz Shield Charge Attack).[1] Holding the Heavy Slash button will charge the Blitz Attack (until the character glows red), and releasing the button unleashes the counterattack. While charging this move, most attacks are rejected.

A Blitz Attack can be repelled by an opponent's Blitz Shield unless it is fully charged, at which point it also gains a greatly increased Attack Level. At partial charge, it causes horizontal blowback with Wall Stick; at max charge or on Counter Hit at partial charge, it crumples (on ground) or floats with Wall stick (on air). Partial charge version has 55% initial proration, while the fully charged version does not prorate. It always steals a small amount of the opponent's Burst Gauge on hit regardless of charge.
