"The Midnight Carnival" is the boss theme of Guilty Gear XX composed by Daisuke Ishiwatari, which plays during the battles against I-No in her boss version. Her normal theme is "Kagematsuri".

The Korean version of ♯Reload has a track with the same title and function as I-No's boss theme, but it was composed by the band N.EX.T.

Guilty Gear XX in N.Y Vocal Edition

From the pit of the shadow
comes my soul, fucking prepared to consume.
Ever thirsting for violence,
Spawn again, rising straight out of Hell's womb.

AHHH, fall down upon your knees,
crushed by mere despair!
Come, lay down your head, sweet child,
or fool, fucking fight me if you dare!

In your gods you seek guidance,
forgiveness, salvation, and release.
Fuck that shit, They're not here.
Sick religions will find you no peace.

Rage, destruction, and death,
This true Trinity!
Existence is futile,
so give your soul to me! Oh yeah!

Rise up above the darkness, don't lose hope,
and never relinquish the light!
You are the one, with all the power to
endure to the end of the fight!

So raise your head, your heart up to the sky,
and search for the strength from within
to find an end you must first begin!

False illusions of grandeur
bring you nothing but seething, pain.
In my shadow shall you die,
Leave this world to the terror of my reign

AHHH, fall down upon your face,
crushed by mere despair!
Down upon your belly worm,
or rise and fucking fight!

Trivia[]

  • A possible namesake may be the song "Midnite Carnival" by the band Outrage. Incidentally, the band's singer Naoki Hashimoto has since provided vocals for the series.
  • Another possibility is the 1982 animated film The Last Unicorn. In it, the Midnight Carnival is a sideshow of illusion by the miserly witch Mommy Fortuna, who disguises captive animals to appear as mythical creatures. The only real beasts of legend in it are the eponymous "last unicorn" and a dangerous harpy. I-No can hence be seen as akin to Mommy Fortuna, who ensnares the cast for her own amusement; as for the real mythical beasts, she takes particular umbrage with Dizzy and Sol, both rare sentient Gears.
  • The structure appears to be based off the 1985 song "Kurenai" by X Japan.
