Deke was a member of the Free States in Appalachia before 2102.
Background[]
After the Great War, Deke led a group of Free States members to take over the Thunder Mountain Power Plant as a strategic chokepoint, and held it against minor attacks from raider groups. However, they were soon attacked by Taggerdy's Thunder, who displayed their superior firepower in an attempt to intimidate them and gave them the ultimatum of leaving or dying. While some of his men wanted to fight back, Deke convinced them to "choose [their] battles and live to fight another day." They then left the plant, and the Brotherhood of Steel later moved in after them.[1]
