Minamoto (みなもと), full name Yorikazu Minamoto (みなもと よりかず) is a third year student at Reihō Academy that was first featured in River City: Rival Showdown. He is a fan of fighting games and can often be seen hanging out at the arcade.
Minamoto was previously close friends with Kiyofumi Taira, though has since grown distant with him when Taira became excessively focused on coming out on top.

River City: Rival Showdown is a remake of Downtown Nekketsu Story. The game takes place before River City Super Sports Challenge ~All Stars Special~.
In the story mode, Minamoto is first seen on the first day playing Double Dragon Duel in the arcade. Kunio walks into the arcade and recognizes the mask sitting next to Minamoto as being the same mask that some of Taira's goons were wearing when they tried to pull a stunt on him. Kunio attempts to ask Minamoto about the mask, though ends up being ignored as Minamoto is too focused on playing games. Minamoto will challenge Kunio to a game of Double Dragon Duel and agrees to talk if he wins. Upon losing, Minamoto will compliment Kunio on his skills at the game and immediately recognize his face. Kunio asks where Minamoto got the mask for a second time with Minamoto requested to speak in private and meet underneath the Hanazono Bridge the following day.
On the second day, Minamoto will wait for Kunio underneath the bridge as promised and challenge him to a fist fight stating it's the way delinquents get to know each other. Upon being defeated, Minamoto apologizes for asking to meet so suddenly and brings up the rumors spreading around of Ryūichi and Ryūji Hattori transferring to Reihō Academy and leading a takeover of all the high schools in Japan. Minamoto asks Kunio to take down Taira as he's currently trying to instigate a fight between Hanazono High School and Senridai High School and believes Kunio is the only one who can stop him. Kunio claims that because Hanazono has Riki, Taira's scheme will end up failing. Minamoto acknowledges this but informs Kunio that Taira is currently looking at targeting Riki's girlfriend Mami Shimada as a way to get him out of the picture. Minamoto explains that he plans on doing the same thing with Nekketsu High School and that his men were responsible for attacking him earlier in the day. He then proceeds to go into Taira's backstory and how he became so fixated on winning by any means necessary. Minamoto asks Kunio once more if he'd be willing to beat some sense into Taira and have him return to who he once was, to which Kunio agrees to help. Kunio asks Minamoto for the masked men's location and is told that they'll later be gathered at Hanazono Park.
Minamoto will later appear after Kunio's fight against the masked men and reveals that he was the one who leaked Taira's plan to him. Minamoto informs Kunio that Taira has moved onto his second plan and is now on his way to jump Riki at Starpark Café. Before leaving, Minamoto asks Taira's men to realize what they're doing is wrong and will bring them harm in the future. After the first fight against Taira in the café, Minamoto will reveal himself to Taira and plead for him to change his ways, though Taira has no interest in stepping down and punches him in the gut. Minamoto will get back up after the second fight against Taira and attempt to convince him to stop again, though he ends up carrying him to the hospital and passes his phone to Kunio after Taira passed out.
During the third day, Minamoto will appear inside of Masao Kobayashi's abandoned warehouse and rush to check in on him after his fight against Kunio asking if he let Mami get away. Minamoto is shocked seeing Kunio and appears annoyed that he's continuing to stick his nose in their business. He asks Taira to join him in fighting Kunio, though Taira has no interest in fighting at the moment. Upon Taira passing out again, Minamoto carries him outside the warehouse.
On the final day, Minamoto will fight alongside Taira in Reihō Academy as he doesn't wish to stand by and see his school sullied by a pair of intruders.
In the Double Dragon Duel mode, Minamoto is renamed to Aaron and will appear as the opponent in the final qualifiers match.
River City Saga: Three Kingdoms[]
Minamoto plays the role of Guo Jia, a civil official in Cao Cao (Yamada)'s army.
Guo Jia makes a cameo appearance in Xu's barracks and will greet Guan Yu (Kunio) while he is temporarily serving under Cao Cao.
Trivia[]
- In River City: Rival Showdown, Minamoto will always pick Taira's River City Ransom counterpart Mojo in Double Dragon Duel when playing against him in the story mode.
