Abobo (アボボ ) is a recurring guest character from the Double Dragon series that was first featured in River City: Tokyo Rumble. In Double Dragon, he is a tall and bald musclehead who is often featured as a boss, mini-boss, or as a minor antagonist.
Appearances[]
River City: Tokyo Rumble[]
Abobo appears as one of Lee's goons during the game's finale in Hong Kong. He will spawn as a mini-boss upon defeating the waves of regular enemies.
River City Ransom: Underground[]
Abobo appears as River City's mayor, the school principal of River City High and shows up as the loading icon.
In the story mode, Abobo is first able to be seen if the player attacks any of the school's teachers, where they'll send them to his office on the third floor which will start a fight against him. When Merv makes a city-wide announcement putting a bounty on the Flock for allegedly stealing his dog, Abobo breaks into the protagonist's classroom and will start a mandatory boss battle with the assistance of some police officers. Throughout the rest of the game, variations of Abobo will occasionally appear as an enemy. During the game's ending, Abobo breaks through a set of lockers to assign detention to the protagonists and shortly after is carried away for a dinner date with Kim who punches him in the gut and carries him off her shoulders. In another scene, Alex will be seen holding a newspaper featuring Abobo giving a key to the city to the player's selected character.
Abobo is able to be played in the game's arena mode.
River City Girls[]
In this continuity, Abobo has been known to kidnap others for money though will take on other odd jobs to make ends meet. He is voiced by Patrick Seitz.
Abobo is first mentioned by Naritaka in Downtown who tells Misako and Kyoko of the rumors that's been going around of someone who steals children and TV sets living in the abandoned subway terminals and suggests that he might've taken Riki. When Abobo meets the girls, he questions what they're currently doing in the subway and is told that they're looking for their boyfriends. Abobo attempts to hit on the girls by mentioning that he's currently single, though gets angry upon being rejected and threatens the girls to leave or he'll fight them. Misako asks Abobo if he was the one responsible for kidnapping Kunio and Riki, to which Abobo appears unsure and states that he's kidnapped plenty of people. Kyoko asks why he kidnaps people with Abobo responding that his parents didn't love him enough while he was young. Misako gets angry with Abobo for not yet giving a direct answer on if he took the boys and threatens to beat him to the ground which amuses Abobo.
Upon being defeated, Kyoko shows Abobo a photo of Kunio and Riki and asks if they've been kidnapped, to which Abobo confirms that he's never seen them. With the girls confused, Abobo suggests that the boys might've not been kidnapped and appears concerned that he may not be able to make it through his security guard shift at Noize's concert in his current condition. When Abobo mentions Noize's name, Kyoko is confused on who she is and Abobo explains that she's a popular musician that he's a big fan of. Abobo suggests that Misako and Kyoko go check out the concert in Ocean Heights as a lot of boys attend her concerts whenever she's in town.
River City Saga: Three Kingdoms[]
Abobo plays the role of Hua Xiong, a general in Dong Zhuo (Sabu)'s army.
In the story mode, Hua Xiong first appears in the second chapter at the Hulao Pass with some troops who are unamused with Sun Jian (Maeda) and his troops. With Sun Jian later leaving the coalition, Hua Xiong leads Dong Zhuo's troops into Xingyang. The coalition have trouble agreeing with who should be sent out to face off against him, though Guan Yu (Kunio) steps up and offers to fight him alone as a way to prove that rank has nothing to do with ability. Guan Yu meets Hua Xiong in Xingyang and challenges him to a duel, to which he agrees. In the comedy route, Tian Nu (Momozono) will send a letter to Liu Bei (Gōda) asking that they put a stop to Dong Zhuo's "Project Abobo" in Luoyang. Upon arriving in Luoyang, Dong Zhuo is seen finishing the last Abobo and gets ready to initiate his world domination plan, though is interrupted by the Guan Yu, Liu Bei, and Zhang Fei (Godai). Dong Zhuo threatens to turn the brothers into the first Abobos, though Guan Yu refuses and vows to stop his plan. A dozen Abobos will then assist Dong Zhuo in his fight against the brothers.
In the fifth chapter, Hua Xiong is seen as the leader of a group of bandits now under the name Zhang Wu as apart of Zhao Yun (Sugata)'s side quest and will fight against him and Guan Yu.
Abobo was added to the China Heroes gamemode as a bonus character that is unlocked by default in the English release of the game. In this gamemode, Abobo has access to various moves seen from his appearances in Double Dragon, the Headbutt, a variation of the Aerial Elbow, an aerial version of the Drop Kick, a unique version of the Human Drill, and a repeated ground slam as his super special. Abobo has the slowest movement speed and will instead throw any weapons or enemies picked up.
River City Girls 2[]
In this game, Abobo is now accompanied by his brothers Mibobo and Jack. Patrick Seitz returns as his English voice actor and is voiced by Yuki Onodera in the Japanese dub.
Abobo appears inside of his apartment in Downtown and will be joined by his brothers as their respective quests are completed. Abobo has ordered takeout though is yet to have it delivered as the electricity in the area has went out, so he mistakes the protagonists as his courier. Abobo will become available as a hired assist once Mibobo and Jack are also present in his apartment.
