Pete Rutledge is a merchant with the Atlantic City Municipal Government at city hall in Fallout 76, introduced in the Expeditions: Atlantic City update part two, America's Playground.
Background[]
An overworked[1] Muni merchant selling what he call legitimate goods at legitimate prices,[2] Pete is an honest merchant working for the Munis. All of the goods he sells are guaranteed by the Municipal Government. They might not be fancy,[3] but they're not stolen goods[4] or overpriced "razzle-dazzle bull".[2] As every cap goes to the city's treasury, rather than into Pete's pockets,[5] he doesn't hand out any kinds of discounts, even to people who do contract work for Mayor Lane.[6] He can hardly believe the Responders got a Vertibird running again.[7]
Pete isn't picky about his customers. In fact, he doesn't care who they are and where they came from, as long as they're paying customers.[8] He doesn't have an interest in people's stories or idle chatter either, focusing purely on buying and selling,[9] from anyone who comes by.[10] As such, he keeps his whole inventory on hand and unlike some traders, doesn't keep anything "in the back".[11] What customers see is what they get.[12] Since Pete keeps track of everything and takes stock whenever he's not busy trading, everything is accounted for.[13]
Being a Muni at City Hall means that he has an ear to the ground and is up to date on the current developments, be they Overgrown infestations,[14] Devil attacks,[15] or leaks and mold[16] at the once-impressive City Hall.[17] He also keeps on top of personal relations within the Muni community. He is skeptical of Anna Barone and Buttercup ever becoming a thing,[18] sees the stress slowly get to Frieda Lane,[19] and finds Mayor Tim's unflappable attitude and calm in the face of adversity downright inspiring. [20] He would also love to see Vin Russo back to help the Munis out.[21]
Pete isn't thrilled about working together with either the Lombardi Family or the Showmen. To him, the former are thieves specializing in poisoning people with chems,[22] while the latter are merely a bunch of homicidal clowns.[23] He seems to despise their bombastic attitude and behavior the most.[24]
