India: PIB announces conclusion of Global IndiaAI Summit

On July 4, 2024, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) announced the conclusion of the Global IndiaAI Summit. The highlights of the summit include:

  • the new integrated partnership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) on artificial intelligence (AI); and
  • the GPAI members coming to a consensus on the future vision of the GPAI. Some of the key points included in the future vision are as follows:
    • recognizing the transformative potential of AI in shaping the future of societies and economies;
    • acknowledging the emerging risks and challenges posed by AI systems;
    • sharing a commitment to fostering trustworthy and human-centric AI;
    • reaffirming the collective commitment to the OECD Recommendation on AI and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Recommendation on the Ethics of AI;
    • recalling that the GPAI has been a unique initiative for global multi-stakeholder cooperation on AI; and
    • recognizing the New Delhi 2023 GPAI Ministerial Declaration, where the GPAI's unique and independent identity is emphasized as a nodal initiative that plays a key role in global cooperation on AI innovation and governance.
