The Sixth Doctor and Peri visit a time in Earth's history when all its inhabitants appear blurry.

Peri first believes that she and the Doctor have landed in the aftermath of a radioactive holocaust.
The "Fizzy Effect" makes people appear blurry as if they are disintegrating. According to the Doctor, it could only be witnessed from 1970 to 1974, when the early tests for Colour Separation Overlay were being conducted.
The Sixth Doctor and Peri observe the Third Doctor and Lethbridge-Stewart, both with the effect.

This story marked the first appearance of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart in the Doctor Who? series.
The dates given by the Sixth Doctor of 1970 to 1974 completely encapsulates the Third Doctor's era on television.
