2019 (MMXIX) was a common year starting on Tuesday of the Gregorian calendar and was also the tenth and final year of the 2010s decade. The show went on hiatus from January to June, due to production over The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

This year saw the celebration of the show's 20th anniversary, marked by the episode "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout." 2019 marked the first year in the show's history that an episode's premiere in the United States had less than 1 million viewers; the episode in question is "The Ballad of Filthy Muck." When "The Krusty Slammer" premiered, its partner episode "Pineapple RV" did not air until July 17, 2020, a year and a half later than the aforementioned episode. For "The Ghost of Plankton," its partner episode "My Two Krabses" did air until January 18, 2021, which is one year and three months later. This is also the first year where new episodes premiered after Stephen Hillenburg's lifetime. This was also the year when Viacom and CBS Corporation merged to become ViacomCBS.

26 episodes premiered in this year, meaning that it is tied with 2008 in terms of numbers of new episodes.
