"Killer's Block" is the tenth and final episode of the fourth season of Harley Quinn, and the forty-seventh episode overall. It was released on September 14, 2023, on Max.

Synopsis[]

Ivy crashes a birthday party on the moon. Harley contemplates how to best avenge her friend.

Plot[]

The episode opens with Harley fighting Bethany. Harley wants to kidnap Joker and for shooting Batgirl. Initially, Bethany refuses to hand him over. However, when her children, Sophia and Benicio get involved, she reluctantly gives him up to protect them. Harley drags a bound Joker out of his house during a rainstorm.

Later at the hospital Harley reunites with Barbara, who miraculously survived getting shot but is now paralyzed from the waist down. Harley shoos Barbara’s nurse out of the room and presents her with yet another casserole. Barbara doesn’t want Harley around, though, and kicks her out. Harley spots Gordon sitting outside his daughter’s hospital room. He is naturally distraught and vows to avenge her near-fatal injury.

Meanwhile the Evil Women in Business Collective are celebrating Ivy's first corporate takeover. Unfortunately, Ivy doesn’t allow herself to celebrate giving Lex Luthor the boot, because all he did was escape to the moon on his rocket and she knows he could make a comeback at any time. When Ivy talks about making a change, the other businesswomen made it clear that's not how they operate; their only interest is business, they take wins and losses, and they don't rock the status quo. Then Veronica Cale reveals that they going to a birthday party on the moon to celebrate Lex turning "40 for the 16th time" much to Ivy's chagrin.

The scene changes to the zoo where Joker mocks Harley about her ineffective torture methods while stating that if she was a hero he would be locked up and if she were a villain, he would be dead and when Harley says she is somewhere in the middle he laughs and states that "normies" fall in the center. Regardless, Joker hopes she doesn’t torture him like those A24 horror movies he loathes. Back at the Hall of Doom Harley and Ivy are exasperated about their currant situations so Ivy decides the couple should crash Lex's birthday party. They arrive on the moon via boom tube with Joker in tow, who’s blindfolded and on a leash.

While Harley looks for a bathroom, she stumbles upon Superman who is nothing but skin and bones and behind a kryptonite forcefield. Meanwhile, Clayface tries to sing via hologram (He couldn’t get through airport security with his emotional support capybara.) but is interrupted by Lex flying out of the giant cake in his Warsuit. When Harley learns from Superman Lex drained his energy, absorbing the hero’s powers and gorgeous hair, she rushes to save Ivy. When Lex welcomes Ivy to his party, she tries to kill him, but he counters all of her attacks with his stolen powers while boasting she was just a puppet leader of the Legion of Doom. Disappointed that Ivy did not have the business sense she thought she had, Talia decided to cut ties with her and the rest of the Evil Women in Business Collective does the same while looking at Ivy with disdain. Ivy tries to continue with her attack, but Lex easily overwhelms her while mocking her that despite all of her fancy talk, in the end she accomplished nothing. Harley shows up tries to help only for her and Ivy to be thrown in a closet.

The two women are beside themselves with disappointment over their failures of late, but then they come to the conclusion that if they really want to make a difference that they have to stop playing by the rules. So, we see Harley and Ivy driving one of Lex’s Moon trucks to his Earth Saver. Lex locks eyes with our pair as Harley and Ivy give him the middle finger. Enraged, he hops into another truck to tail them. Ivy asks Harley to call Barbara to see if she can hack Lex’s truck. Barbara does so with glee and rather quickly. She takes control of his vehicle and sends him flying into a moon crater.

Harley Quinn
You goanna tell all the hoes in the Justice League a normie saved you?
Superman
I always knew you were a hero.
Harley Quinn
I’m better than a hero I’m Harley F***ing Quinn!
— Harley saving Superman and finally being true to herself.

When they reach the laser, Barbara hacks into all the alarm systems in Gotham to evacuate everybody and with that done Harley and Ivy blow up every villain run business in the city (As well as an overpriced seafood restaurant that Ivy doesn't think is all that good anyway). Then, Harley and Ivy share a tender moment. Ivy loves how Harley inspires her to be a better person. Lex is overjoyed when Steppenwolf shows up but is horrified when he learns that the galactic warlord had come to take him to Apokolips as a favor to Ivy. The constant use of the giant ray gun caused the moon to break in two, so it was time to leave as Harly rescue Superman from the collapsing moon base and gets in an escape pod with Ivy and Joker.

Three days later, Alfred finally arrives at Blackgate. He committed crimes specifically, so he’d have access to the elite prison just to be with Bruce Wayne. Unfortunately, he spots Bruce exiting the penitentiary, getting himself out early thanks to his connections. Now, Alfred is stuck there without him. Meanwhile at the hospital Gordon finds Joker in a box with a note that says, “This knob goblin shot Batgirl.” and so, Gordon can’t wait to employ torture methods from the A24 horror movies, much to Joker's dismay.

Later that night, Superman got his powers back and begins to put the moon back together. Harley and Ivy are Gotham cemetery were the meet with Barbra who now sees how Harley's destructive tendencies can be used for good and announces she also quit the Bat Family. Just then Catwoman unexpectedly emerges from the shadows and wants to show something she discovered; Nightwing's grave is empty. The four women join forces and form a new team, the Gotham City Sirens and decide to take the mysterious situation as their first case. Unbeknownst to them the one who stole Nightwing's corpse was none other than Talia who at that very moment was at the Lazarus Pit with her son Damian as she told him his friend would be "different but better". A reanimated Nightwing emerges from the mystic waters and furiously asks where Harley was, and the episode ends with a sinister smile shown on Talia's face.

Trivia[]

  • Before the episode, a tribute to Arleen Sorkin, who died on August 24, 2023, is shown. Sorkin was the original voice of Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series as well as inspiration for the character overall.
  • This is the first episode after "Icons Only" in which Harley appears with her typical outfit throughout the entire episode, after primarily appearing in her bat suit between "The First Person to Come Back From a Business Conference Without Chlamydia" and "Potato-Based Cloning Incident".
  • Harley saying "Nobody pins Ivy in the corner" before shooting Lex, is a reference to Patrick Swayze's classic line "Nobody puts Baby in the corner" from the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing.
  • Joker reveals he hates the A24 horror films.
  • Clayface recreates Marilyn Monroe's iconic "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" routine.
  • When Harley comments that she loves how when the pair are in sync, Ivy replies "Yeah, like back in '53 when Dizzy Gillespie horned it up with Charles Mingus", a reference to the two famous jazz musicians concert at Massey Hall in Toronto in 1953, know as Jazz at Massey Hall. Aside from Gillespie and Mingus, it also featured Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, and Max Roach and was the only time that the five musicians recorded together as a unit.
  • When forming the "Gotham City Sirens", Barbara suggests the name "Birds of Prey" as an alternative name, a reference to the all-female superhero team whom Barbara Gordon (often using the alias of Oracle) helps to form and is a member of in the comics.
  • Nightwing is revived with a raspier and deeper voice, due to the damage to his vocal cords from Harley accidentally sleep-strangling him.

Goof/error[]

  • When the underside of Harley Quinn's shoes are shown the footstep pattern is "reversed" from how they are usually depicted as the black footstep with a red star appears on the bottom of her black shoe instead of her red shoe, and the red footstep with a black diamond appears on the bottom of her red shoe instead of her black shoe.
