Quick, Bat Family, to the Batmobile!
Batman[src]

The Bat Family is the name given to Batman and his closest allies.

Although Batman has been seen working with various allies throughout the series, they were first seen working as a proper team and using the Bat Family name in the episode "There's No Ivy in Team".

History[]

Batman has had multiple wards going under the moniker of Robin, the first being Dick Grayson who eventually left to become a superhero in his own right: Nightwing.[1] The role has also been held by Jason Todd who was killed by the Joker,[2] Tim Drake,[3][4] and most recently by Batman's 12-year-old son, Damian Wayne.[5]

After Batman suffered great injuries and spent months in a coma, Batman's butler and close ally Alfred Pennyworth took up the vigilante persona of "The Macaroni" and began fighting crime in his place, alongside other newcomer, Batgirl both of whom Batman were very skeptical of. However, after they saved him from being killed by Bane and realizing he needed more time to heal, Batman officially teamed up with Batgirl and let her do the fighting while he recovered[6] although he eventually returned to crime-fighting as well.[7]

When Nightwing returned to Gotham City he was surprised by the changes in the team, including the addition of Batgirl and the Macaroni as well as Damian having taken his place as Robin, and he struggled to adjust. They fought Firefly when he was attempting to burn down the Old Gotham Corn Factory but the plan went awry as Nightwing didn't stick to the plan and he and Batgirl struggled to cooperate. Following that failure, Batgirl took the team to an escape room to build camaraderie. Despite turning out to be a death-trap by the Riddler and the team almost dying, they managed to get out and learn from it as Nightwing and Batgirl then made amends and the team went out on another mission.[1]

Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy made plans to terraform Gotham City into a jungle using a modified Frank the Plant as the catalyst. After Frank went missing, she and Harley began searching for him, unaware that Frank has been captured by Batman, following the breakdown of his relationship with Catwoman, he now seeks to use Frank's mutant powers to resurrect his parents.[8] After learning who kidnaped Frank, Bruce was kidnapped by Harley's Crew and they enlisted the help of Doctor Psycho to enter his mind to learn Frank's whereabouts. While Bruce's consciousness kept Harley in lock down, Nightwing, Batgirl and Robin broke into Catwoman's Apartment to rescue him and captured the crew members before tying them up in Wayne Manor.[3]

During that time, Harley discovered Bruce's identity as Batman and his trauma over his parents' murder, but was unable to help him overcome it, leading Bruce to go though with the plan to resurrect his parents as plant zombies; inadvertently starting a zombie apocalypse in the process.[3] After stopping zombies from terraforming Gotham. Harley was hailed as a hero for her actions and realized she enjoyed doing good, leading her to continue helping Bruce as his therapist. After Bruce was arrested for his crimes, he asked Batgirl to lead Bat Family in his absence, with Harley joining as its newest member.[9]

After joining the Bat Family, Harley is scolded by the team for murdering Professor Pyg breaking their number one rule of no killing and is grounded forced to be Alfred's assistant. Eventually, Harley earns her bat-costume by arresting Alfred from robbing a bank (although this was intentional so he could be sent to Blackgate Penitentiary and stay close to Batman).[10] However, due to Wayne Enterprises critical financial situation, Talia al Ghul takes all their gears and assets to liquidate them and cuts off the company's tech support for the team. Without money and gears the team urges to find a way to make income, so they choose to rent rooms and take cupons from magazines to have as many savements as the can get. Eventually, they get back their gears and security cameras after Harley makes money by selling Poison Ivy's underwear clothes online.[11]

When her father leaves her mother, Batgirl dissapears and Harley and Nightwing desperately try to search for their partner. After a while, Harley finds her in the woods in a small cottage. Suddenly, they find out Nightwing's dead.[12]

After the mysterious and unexpected death of Nightwing, Batgirls believes they should split and go separated in the meantime they find who murdered Nightwing. With Batman and Alfred arrested, Nightwing's death and Robin being taken to her mother's place, Harley and Batgirl are the only remaining members of the Bat Family.[13] It is later revealed that Harley killed Nightwing while she was sleep-walking. After learning this, Harley realizes she has compromised herself by forcing herself to be a hero and quits the team.[14]

After becoming paralyzed from the waist down after being shot by the Joker and helping Harley defeat Lex Luthor and use his "Earth Saver" to blow up a bunch of businesses in Gotham, Batgirl decides to quit the Bat family as well. After finding out that Nightwing's corpse was taken from the graveyard, Harley, Ivy, Batgirl, and Catwoman decide to form the Gotham City Sirens to find out who stole Nightwing, unaware that Talia stole the body and resurrected him in Lazarus Pit.[15]
