The Legend

The Legend is a recurring character of the Amazon series The Boys. He was the Senior Vice President of Hero Management for Vought American.

Background[]

Career at Vought[]

The Legend had previously worked for Vought International when the company was still named Vought-American as the Senior Vice President of Hero Management. He would work with many superheroes and celebrities alike, fulfilling many different roles from helping in the production of new films and attending parties to covering up misdeeds caused by the Vought's "heroes".

Eventually he would be "backstabbed" by both Stan Edgar and Madelyn Stillwell, resulting in his retirement and the latter to take up his role in the company.

Informant for The Boys[]

After leaving Vought, The Legend would assist The Boys by acting as an informant. However, after a botched operation, he lost his left leg at the hands of Electroshock, for which he blamed Billy Butcher. This incident would damage the relationship between The Legend and The Boys.

Season 3[]

Milk, Butcher, and Hughie visit The Legend to talk. Milk asks The Legend if Soldier Boy had visited him. The Legend initially denies this, with Milk then convincing him to admit that he came by to pick up his super suit, and for the address of his former girlfriend Crimson Countess. The Legend then admits that the stories of Soldier Boy's service during World War II were Vought-created propaganda.

Personality[]

The Legend is an eccentric old man who does cocaine and speaks fondly of the old days, with some less than normal seeming stories to share. He doesn't speak highly of his history with Vought due to being sickened at the deranged antics of Supes. He was implied to be a supporter for the Civil Rights Movement as well opposed America's involvement in the Vietnam War, expressing disgust over Soldier Boy's actions to suppress protestors who spoke out during that time, even hinting Soldier Boy may have been in involved in JFK's assassination.

He was the predecessor to Madelyn Stillwell, and once worked to cover up countless heroes' misdeeds. Despite this, he greatly despised his career and history with Vought, and came to mellow out later in life. He apparently took discomfort when Soldier Boy, who was 63, had a love interest played by then 19-year-old Phoebe Cates in one of his films. He also seemed to genuinely appreciate the concept of superheroes, wishing they could be 'real' heroes instead of stage performers. He kept Soldier Boy's old costume out of sentimentality.

He is distrusting of Billy Butcher, as in the past he had helped The Boys but a mishap resulting in him losing a leg. He points out that Billy is a toxic individual who destroys the lives of everyone around him.

• His comics counterpart in the original Dynamite (known only as "Old Legend") is a parody of Stan Lee, with his name being a nod to Stan's reputation in both the comic book world and pop culture at large. The series version, however, is based off of famous Hollywood producer and screenwriter Robert Evans. The creators explained this change was to reflect the different focus in mediums. In the comics, comic books were the dominant piece of media, whilst in the Amazon Prime series, film and television are the primary focus.
