Ritz (リズ, Rizu; German for "Scratch") is the Doll of Mabashi.[1]

Appearance[]

Ritz takes the form of a small, rodent-like creature approximately the size of a human hand. She has the head of a mouse with red fur, pale blue eyes, a backward-curving tuft of fur on either cheek, and a light brown snout and nose. Her body resembles a flower, with three purple-black petals encircling her head and an inverted, four-petaled yellow-red flower comprising her body, with two additional smaller, crooked petals comprising her arms. Her crest takes the form of a tiny, slender, oval-shaped blue crystal emblazoned with the Bount emblem which Mabashi wears on the choker around his neck; to summon Ritz, Mabashi rips the crystal off of his choker, causing it to glow with a bright light, and drops it onto the ground, where it sinks into the earth and sprouts a yellow-purple flower on a long stem that grows into his hand and morphs into Ritz.[1]

Personality[]

Ritz is an upbeat and overly servile Doll who speaks in a cutesy manner and has a tendency to announce the direction she is currently moving in. However, like Mabashi, she has a considerable sadistic streak, greatly enjoying harming other people even if they are supposed to be her allies[1] and happily controlling other people for him with her power; in turn, she is disgusted by the love-based Sōten Kisshun of Orihime Inoue, the only power that can separate her from her hosts.[2]

Ritz is extremely loyal to and affectionate toward Mabashi, whose every order she readily carries out without hesitation and whom she frequently asks if there is anything else she can do for him.[1][2][3] However, like many Dolls, Ritz will not obey her master if he is weakened; when Mabashi was fatally poisoned by Suì-Fēng's Nigeki Kessatsu and ordered her to attack Suì-Fēng, Ritz acknowledged the order in her usual manner, but instead swarmed Mabashi himself with her clones and began attacking him despite his protests and pleas for her to stop, continuing to do so until both of them died shortly afterward.[4]

Plot[]

Bount arc (anime only)[]

Note: Events occurring in this arc are only in the anime and do not constitute canon material.

Ep84RitzStabsYoshi

Ritz stabs Yoshi in the neck at Mabashi's behest.

After the Bount are sent out by Jin Kariya to test out their new Bitto-enhanced powers, Mabashi interrupts Yoshi's fight against Rukia Kuchiki, Orihime Inoue, and Kurōdo by summoning Ritz, who proceeds to chase Yoshi around the area and outmaneuver her attacks before stabbing her in the neck, which causes her to flee. Following this, when told by Mabashi to have some fun, Ritz demonstrates her great speed and attack power by blowing through several metal shutters in the nearby building and begins flying around Rukia and her friends. Though Rukia succeeds in smacking her down with a metal fixture, Ritz burrows into her chest and takes control of Rukia.[1]

Ep85RukiaAttacksOrihime

Ritz forces Rukia Kuchiki to attack Orihime Inoue.

At Mabashi's command, Ritz begins forcing Rukia to attack Orihime and Kurōdo with Kidō, then forces Rukia's Soul out of her Gigai in order to access her full power and make use of her Zanpakutō. With Ritz moving her body to intercept a Koten Zanshun from Orihime aimed at Mabashi and 9th Division Lieutenant Shūhei Hisagi arriving with the intention of killing her if Ritz cannot be removed, Rukia briefly regains control of her body and begs to be killed before she can hurt anyone else. However, Orihime instead uses Sōten Kisshun to push Ritz out of Rukia, allowing Hisagi to cut down Ritz, who returns to her sealed state.[2]

Ep99RitzHovers

Ritz copies herself in order to possess multiple Shinigami.

Several days later, Mabashi infiltrates the Seireitei in Soul Society alongside the other remaining Bount and begins creating distractions at Kariya's behest; to this end, he first summons Ritz to disorient a group of Keigun while he personally incapacitates them, and upon encountering a group of Shinigami, Mabashi has Ritz create multiple copies of herself to possess all of them at the same time. The two of them continue possessing Shinigami and Keigun around the Seireitei before 2nd Division Captain Suì-Fēng arrives to assess the situation, at which point one of the Ritz copies possessing a Keigun stabs her with a dormant Bitto.[3]

Ep100MabashiDying

Ritz and her copies turn on a weakened Mabashi, killing both of them.

With Suì-Fēng poisoned by the rotten soul inside the Bitto, all the Shinigami possessed by the copies of Ritz begin attacking their comrades across the Seireitei, creating widespread chaos as the rest of the Gotei 13 responds to this. Soon afterward, 7th Division Captain Sajin Komamura and Hisagi realize that the Shinigami can be safely knocked out to incapacitate the copies of Ritz, which leads Mabashi to realize that he will need a more powerful host for Ritz in order to effectively fight them. However, when he returns to Suì-Fēng, she initiates Nigeki Kessatsu on him, weakening him to the point where Ritz stops following his orders and instead attacks Mabashi, killing them both.[4]

Powers & Abilities[]

RitzSpeed

Ritz demonstrates her high-speed movement capabilities.

Enhanced Speed: Ritz can fly through the air at high speeds in any direction and with great agility, allowing her to easily maneuver around attacks and across large areas; with enough momentum, she can burst through solid objects like metal shutters and concrete with enough force to blow them apart.[1]

Tunneling: By transforming her head into a thin tendril, Ritz can easily tunnel through soil and concrete. She can also use this ability to stab people with the tendril, causing them visible pain.[1]

Enhanced Durability: Despite her small size, Ritz is durable enough to smash through solid metal and concrete without harm, as well as take direct blunt attacks with minimal injury.[1]

Ep85RitzEjectsRukia

Ritz possesses Rukia Kuchiki.

Possession: The primary power of Ritz is her ability to possess other beings, which she does by flying toward her victim and tunneling into their chest without physically harming them before attaching herself to their Soul; from here, the target's eyes become unfocused, signaling that Ritz has complete control of their body.[1] When possessing someone, Ritz can make use of their spiritual powers, such as Kidō, and eject them from a Gigai to access their true power if they are in one.[2] She can also hide her presence within a being's Soul in order to trick and surprise Mabashi's enemies.[4]

RitzMultiplying

Ritz multiplies in Soul Society.

Multiplication: After Mabashi consumed several living Souls concentrated by the Bitto and entered the Reishi-rich Soul Society, Ritz gained the ability to create copies of herself in order to possess multiple individuals at once.[3] According to Mabashi, there is no upper limit to the amount of times that she can multiply in this fashion.[4]
