Twitter users are waking up to new rules every day. In the latest change since Elon Musk's takeover, Twitter announced that it will remove the accounts which were created "solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames". The list of these other social media platforms includes Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post.

The announcement made it clear that the new policy only extends to the mentioned social media platforms and excludes others. Another tweet clarified, "Posting links or usernames to social media platforms not listed above are also not in violation of this policy."

Twitter's announcement against "free promotion" of Mastodon also comes just days after it suspended accounts belonging to Mastodon. The reasons behind the suspension of Mastodon's accounts were unclear. It also flagged many links to the social media platform as "potentially harmful."

Since the announcement on Sunday night, Twitter has already started implementing the policy and removed the accounts of Twitter users.

Meanwhile, Twitter's future seems shaky as its whimsical new owner Elon Musk created a poll asking if he should step down as the head of the microblogging site.

Elon Musk bought Twitter on October 28 in a USD 44 billion deal. Since his takeover, several changes have been made on the site.
