It was finally a happy ending as team India's fielding coach T Dilip hosted the fielding ceremony after India's triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian camp was ecstatic, happy and on their feet as they scripted history by becoming the world champions. The energy in the Indian team's dressing room was immaculate as they were all pumped after the win. This time, BCCI secretary Jay Shah was invited to give the fielding medal award. Suryakumar Yadav was presented with the medal for his 'World Cup winning' catch in the final over. Team India's ritual of acknowledging the best fielding effort of the match received a fitting ending.

Jay Shah presented the medal to Surykumar, who was elated after receiving the award and flaunted his World Cup medal as well as the best fielding medal. Suryakumar's catch drew comparison to Kapil Dev's catch from the 1983 World Cup win. South Africa needed 16 runs in the final over to lift their maiden World Cup title. With David Miller at the crease, the Proteas could have turned the tide their way.

Suryakumar pulls off a Kapil Dev!

The batter looked determined to take the game away from India, and he hit the first ball towards long-off. As the ball travelled in the air, everyone had their hearts in their mouths but a calm and composed Suryakumar completed a brilliant catch at the long-off boundary. The 33-year-old took hold of the ball and got rid of it immediately with the momentum taking him over the fence. However, he quickly jumped back in and completed one the greatest catches ever in the history of ICC events.

The official Instagram handle of the BCCI shared a special video of the ceremony and T Dilip hailed the entire team for the way

"We talk about rising to the occasion in big games today. We just didn't rise, but we conquered today. The intensity, the camaraderie, the resilience, that we are shown today and also throughout the tournament, we are nothing short of extraordinary stuff like a pack of wolves. Well, Rahul and Rohit keep saying everybody knew their role. But together we hunted every opportunity which came our way, leaving no stone unturned," T Dilip said.

"Thank you so much, sir, for giving me this opportunity and collecting this medal from Jay sir," Suryakumar said.
