Modes
In Arms, there are several types of Modes that players can experience. These range from single to multiplayer modes, for both fun or for skill.
The following modes are all unlocked from the start - but note that some that require online can only be accessed with an internet connection, and eventually will need to be a part of Nintendo's online service.

- Grand Prix - the Single (or co-op) gauntlet
- Versus Mode - A way for friends to go head to head in a variety of ways:
- Team Fight - 2v2 arena fights
- V-Ball - Volleyball style matches with a twist
- Hoops - 1v1 fights where dunking your opponent is the key to victory
- Skillshot - Play against opponents in a game of skill
- 1-on-100 - Take down as many opponents as you can before getting knocked out
- Party Match - Get up to 20 players all battling together in a lobby
- Ranked Match - Skill based matches that allow you to rank up.

How to enable LAN play
To switch from "Local" play to "LAN' play, simply hold in the left analog stick while pressing L+R on the main menu. Local should then change to LAN.
