Summary
A new chapter in the expansive, action-packed series, Yakuza: Like a Dragon introduces Ichiban Kasuga, a low-level yakuza member looking to prove his self-worth, and follows him and his motley crew of unlikely allies as they attempt to rise from rags to riches in this modern human drama.

This was the first real “Yakuza” game that I played. I had already played the Judgment spinoff games, but not the original games in the series. This is also the first of the “new Yakuza” games with a new protagonist. I had no experience with Kiryu beforehand, so the change to a new guy didn’t really impact me at all. Like all Yakuza games, the story in this one is more long and convoluted than it needs to be, but the overall experience is very enjoyable. There are a lot of fun minigames and side quests to keep you occupied. The new fighting style introduced in this game is kind of a mixed bag. At times I really liked it, because it allowed me to basically put some fights on auto pilot, but at other times I didn’t like how it made some street fights last much longer than they needed to. But overall, this was an enjoyable game.

Yakuza 7 new attempt at an RPG type combat left me not wanting for more of it. While the combat isnt horrible I did feel like it slowed down the exploration and style of the game that I learned to love. This game added a significant amount of things to do which and collectibles but the thing is all Yakuza games already had a million things to do so this is overkill to the point where this is the first yakuza game that I don't complete all substories because after 60+ hours and was not able to max out certain stats that are necessary for these substories and its sort of ridiculous. The main story is fine typical Yakuza story but definitely not the best and at least for me the new main character doesn't cut it for me and I cant learn to love him the same way I do for Kiryu or even Majima. I give it a 7 because it's decent but I hope they return back to a active battle system and tone it down with the extra things to do.
