"Dear sunrise" is the twentieth ending theme of the One Piece anime, sung by Maki Otsuki.

Ending[]

The screen opens to an angled back view of Luffy looking out over an ocean in the sunset, with the camera zooming out as the song continues, reminiscent of the first ending. As the song progresses and the sun goes up, it steadily gets further and more Straw Hats appear. First Zoro, then Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook, and lastly Jinbe. It then transitions to shots of the Straw Hats' key moments redrawn in a new art style with the original one in the background, beginning with Luffy waking up in Alvida's ship, following with his encounter with each one of the Straw Hats and ending with a shot of the mugs put down by the crew to welcome Jinbe in the 982nd episode before zooming in, and transitioning to Merry's eye and face who then changes into the Sunny's. We are then greeted to a shot of the Straw Hats smiling at the rising sun, as it changes to a far away shot of the Sunny sailing into the sea as it zooms in progressively. We then cut to the scene where Shanks gives his straw hat to Luffy, which transitions into the hat floating on Luffy's back, who grabs on to it, followed by a succession of shots of the Straw Hats smiling, and ending with Luffy doing the same to the camera this time. It finishes with a back shot of the Sunny sailing to the rising sun as a bird is seen flying into the horizon.

Trivia[]

  • Dear sunrise is created by Maki Otsuki, the same person as memories and RUN! RUN! RUN!, the first ending and second ending, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the One Piece anime.[1]
  • Some of the lyrics can be alluded to Luffy himself:
    • The lyrics "本当の約束は 胸の奥のもっと奥にある", meaning "the real promise lies deep within my heart", is a reference to how Luffy keeps his actual dream a secret and has only revealed it to Shanks, Ace, Sabo, and his crewmates, as mentioned in Episode 1088.
    • The lyrics "太陽のように 笑うあなたへ", meaning "to you who smiles like the sun" is a reference to Sun God Nika, Luffy's Gear Fifth form who was able to spread joy to wherever he went.
