Nintendo Game Pack

The Nintendo Game Pack is a series of collectible trading cards released by Topps in the United States and by O-Pee-Chee in Canada in 1989 under license of Nintendo to promote games released on the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Description[]

The Nintendo Game Pack trading card series were sold in individual packs at 25 cents each, each containing five cards wrapped in wax paper, three of which that were scratch off cards and two stickers. Each pack features a Nintendo mascot character on its cover, either Mario, Princess Toadstool or Link. The entire set contains 93 cards in total, 60 of which that feature a scratch off game and the remaining 33 containing a sticker(s) on their front and a gameplay tip on their back.

The set covers six games overall, five of which are Nintendo properties, including Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and Punch-Out!!, while the sixth one is Double Dragon (released on the NES in 1988), being the only exception where a third party IP was covered.

Each game is covered by 10 scratch off cards that feature either original artwork or modified official artwork based on a specific scene of the game, with scratchable circles among it, and with directions on the back describing the rewards and penalties obtained after scratching each circle that will allow the player to either win or lose the game.

Each sticker card features one or more stickers on its front that can be peeled off to use elsewhere, as well as one "Top Secret Tip" for one of these games, not necessarily pertaining to the one featured on the sticker.

Trivia[]

• The Punch-Out!! cards feature all opponents except the final boss, Mike Tyson, likely due to licensing reasons.
  • While the game was later re-released as Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream, with all appearances of Mike Tyson removed, this version wasn't released until 1990, a year after the release of the Nintendo Game Pack cards, and thus the new final boss, Mr. Dream, also wasn't featured on them.
