Double Dragon (Chinese: 더블 드래곤 Deobeul Deulaegon) was a cellular phone game developed by Bandai and published by Bandai Mobile on July 14, 2004.[1] This version of the original arcade game has since been removed from online stores, and it is considered to be lost media.

Bandai would later release another iteration for mobile platforms entitled Double Dragon EX on May 25, 2005.

Description[]

Double Dragon™ is back! Smash your way through four thug-infested stages as you tear through South Town on a rampage! Arm yourself with an array of street arsenal and stomp out evil the Double Dragon™ way!

—Description from the official website

Plot[]

In the post-apocalyptic city of New York, the Shadow Warriors have taken over the metropolitan area and captured Marian. The Double Dragons must fight their way through the city to rescue Marian and defeat the Shadow Warriors.

Gameplay[]

The game is played with the keyboard's number keys in conjunction with the directional pad.

Development[]

Bandai showcased their version of Double Dragon on May 14, 2004 at the Los Angeles Convention Center for that year's E3 event. Bringing it to Sprint Vision subscribers within a several months period, the game was launched on the both Sanyo and Samsung devices.[2]

Reception[]

GameSpot had a negative impression of Double Dragon when Stephen Palley posted his review on July 27, 2004, stating that it didn't do justice to the original. Palley lambasted the title for its slowdowns, monotonous gameplay, and jerky animations. Giving a final score of 4.7 out of 10, he wrote, "Overall, the mobile version of Double Dragon ranks as a disappointment. This iteration of Double Dragon is missing all of the interesting gameplay features that made the original so cool. There are no ladders or terrain to use to your advantage, the screen doesn't scroll, and, ultimately, there are no real reasons to trudge through dozens of identical enemies to reach the game's final confrontation. All told, you're better off leaving this version alone."[3]
