In the series, Tiana sets off for a grand new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia, but a calling to her New Orleans past isn’t far behind.[2]
This will also be the fifth television series to be based on a movie featuring a Disney Princess, and the first to be produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios itself. The others were The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Sing Me a Story with Belle, and Tangled.
With this series, Tiana will be the first Princess to both have a film and TV series produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Stella Meghie became the series' showrunner and director after unsuccessfully trying to pitch an idea for a live-action adaptation of The Princess and the Frog. Jennifer Lee was impressed with her determination that she was offered work on the show instead.[3]
Tiana will mark the first Walt Disney Animation Studios production to be helmed by an African-American director.
The series will also be the first WDAS long-form production to be helmed by a woman of color.
Additionally, the series will mark the first long-form WDAS production to be directed solely by a woman.
