Production[]
On February 27, 2020, the show was announced to be receiving a revival for a third season on Disney+ as The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.[4] The original cast will reprise their roles, and Keke Palmer would voice a new character introduced to the series named Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, who is a 14-year-old activist.[4] Zachary Quinto and Billy Porter would also voice her adoptive parents, Barry and Randall Leibowitz-Jenkins, and EJ Johnson will replace Phil LaMarr as Michael Collins. Wild Brain said in July 2021 that they would be engaging in animation services for the series, while it would be animated by Disney Television Animation. The executive producers of the series, Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar, said that the "show never really went away" and called it the "perfect time to bring back this show." ScreenRant argued that the revival will break down barriers through inclusion of multicultural families and characters belonging to the LGBTQ+ community while BuzzFeed said the show will have a "much queerer cast of characters."[4]
On January 14, 2022, it was announced the series is scheduled to be released February 23, 2022.
Before the show's premiere, Farquhar said that a lot has changed since original show premiered, and said the show would take on more topical topics rather than using "coded language" like in the original show. He also said that introduction of LGBTQ+ characters is the "biggest change," people can expect to the show.
On April 18, 2022, the series was renewed for a second season.[5]
On January 13, 2023, it was announced that Season 2 would be released on February 1, 2023, with the full season dropping at once.[3]
On June 13, 2023, it was announced that the series was picked up for a third season.[6]
